Pre-purchase Inspection - Sydney
Hi All,
Can you guys give me some recommendations for a BMW specialist to carry out a pre-purchase inspection around Sydney's Eastern Suburbs? There are plenty on the north shore but I can't find many in the east. Thanks in advance. |

Try state roads -Google it - they travel and are very good but not BMW specific. One of the tests they run is paint thickness over the whole car so you can tell if it has had a major. They picked up a few things over the years I have been using them.

Hope its all good, I was fed up viewing used 135i's coz of one spec or another, I suppose the savings are worth it.

This one will be a garage queen, driven on the weekend. So a good used example will do me fine. I found plenty of recommendations for BMW garages dotted around the lower north shore but so far nothing in the east. I'd rather a garage does the inspection so it can go up on a hoist. The mobile guys can only do so much in someone's driveway. |

Just take a short dash across the bridge and have Peter Marbey BMW specialist in St Leonards take a look, approx 20 mins from the east.

Gents, how often do the front OEM brake discs on the 135i need replacing?
Speaking with one of the blokes at BMW Sydney he tells me they usually need to be replaced with every second pad change! That seems a bit much to me. What are they made of? Reinforced cardboard? How long have you gotten out of your front rotors? I'm talking normal road driving. Not track use. |

Yeah that seems to be where we're at with this one. Got about 57k out of them.
What happens to the rotors? Do they warp or score easily? Are there any recommended after market upgrades? May as well pay extra and get stronger discs that will last longer or withstand more punishment. |

Yeah, they're not an especially mod-friendly workshop. But (arguably) in a pre-purchase inspection you're probably looking for a skilled BMW service engineer with exactly that sort of conservative mindset.
