There is a link at the beginning of this thread that shows where they are (not sure if you clicked that or not). I actually was confused by the picture at first until I realized I needed to remove the cowl piece to get to the back one, once you remove that piece its pretty easy to spot and complete the mod.

Try it both ways and see what you like better. Another note is that the cowl and cabin filter are designed to promote proper airflow as it dams on the windshield at speed. It IS functional (if only slightly), and if you take it out the air swirls at the base of the windshield trapping heat in the engine bay and negatively affecting flow patterns over the front of the car as it creates a giant negative pressure spot right there. I've marked running cowl-less as a bad mod (in my book) for this reason. It's one of those small bits of engineering like the flaps in front of the wheels that while generally innocuous, are good to have. That being said I plan on trying this BOV mod. For $2 and change, cant say no to that!

Really don't want to derail your thread man. But anyways.

Now the below links are talking primarily about hood risers, but deleting your cowl and cabin filter bracketing does exactly the same thing by opening up a large pathway into the engine bay from the wrong end. Found it: Thread on these forums about the cowl delete/Filters mod: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=900940 Good post elsewhere: http://www.importatlanta.com/forums/...-your-car.html Good read, but unfortunately the pictures that do it justice for us laypersons are missing...

Ok so I was loving this BOV mod. I had my front hose unhooked and angled it up for best sound. Yesterday I checked and there is oil being sprayed on the bottom of the hood from the hose. It is not enough to matter on an oil level perspective, but its messy.
I hooked it back up the way its supposed to be now, but clearly blowby is an issue on this setup. Anyone got any ideas for some kind of filter that will let air out but not oil? The sound is amazing, but its not worth making a huge mess. I was thinking something like a beather filter like this, but I have no idea what size or anything to use. I suck at custom fitting parts. But IMO this is 100% needed. After just a week I made a decent mess. So you'll be spraying out messy oil if you leave this wide open. Its gotta go somewhere. |

This is actually what I have been toying around with. It's pretty simple IMO to replicate the picture above. Stuff some tubing down the tract, and add a breather filter at the end.

I'd do it but I always end up with the wrong size etc. If you end up doing it please post what you add. Really there was more oil spray than you'd think in a week. Very messy. I'd avoid running it without a filter. With a filter I'd switch back in a heartbeat.

If someone figures out a filter system that works, post up.
I won't do it unless we can get that figured out. Don't want oil spraying all over my bay.

The real solution for us is a oil catch can, as this does point out the amount of blow-by people are getting. Imagine how much of that is being pushed back into the intake tract with the recircs equipped!

Also, where do you get the parts? I already have the 7/8" caps, but sitting on hold with this until I can do it properly with the breather filters.

I already have an oil catch can. Would I need the filters then?

If you need filters after a catch can, you've got bigger problems, my friend.

I don't think a $2 mod is worth the extra enjoyment to the ears considering not everyone is agreeing that this is a completely safe mod.
