Believe it or not when dealing with BMW NA your getting alot of transparency. Try talking to BMW in Germany about the poorly engineered HPFP. I went to get a software flash and when I pulled in, I set down a box. They asked what it was. I told them in the box is my first HPFP. The box itself has the part number for the one in the car now incase they need it for the flash. First question from the tech
"Is something not right with your original?" I said no it failed and I didn't feel like losing my car for a week by the time they finally fixed what was wrong so I replaced it myself. he responds with "It is very unlikely your fuel pump has caused any problems, we have not seen this" I can name three people off this forum that went to the same dealer and had a HPFP replaced before this. Also a guy with an ACS1 that had his fail in the first 3,000miles who dealt with the same tech that had "never seen this". Since I've asked 3 other dealerships and they say they haven't seen this problem while German members complain on the forums about having failures. They treat it like the war "It just didn't happen, I am not familliar with that" lol |

Sorry for reviving this topic, but my 2011 DCT N55 135i left me stranded with no preceding signals. The car was working perfectly I parked it outside for 15 minutes and when I went back it had hard time starting up, it was cranking and cranking as id it was flooded with gasoline. When the car finally started it sounded like a 91' Turbo Rotative Mazda. I tried to run with it, but within 50 feets or so, the engine just stopped and it didn't started again. It was cranking and cranking and all the warnings in the dash went on. Today I took it in. I'll keep you posted.

Well... it Could be the fuel pump (wink, wink).. But I hope not! I'd been hoping the N55 was relatively immune. Keep us apprised.

So I am getting one of these shadow code faults. I have stage 2 mhd map custom tuned by wedge. If I go back to the stock map, where I am guessing the HPFP doesn't have to work as hard I don't get faults. Is this common?

HPFP PITA never ends
Well in December the HPFP was replaced and just 8 months later, it's dead. these units need a complete redesign. Why has there been no tear down to even identify what is causing them to fail?
Is it seals? Is it some internal spring or valve or diaphragm failing? Why are they failing? I would expect someone would know the failing parts and there would be a rebuild kit with better pieces so it lasts. They are on hundreds of thousands of motors around the world, why can't a dependable unit be made, or the aftermarket make this happen!?
