Just wanted to say thanks for putting this DIY together. Coded my battery last week. Was able to register via INPA, and then I tried with Winkfp just for fun and it worked as well. Manually coded the battery type via NCSEXPERT.
I also tried via Rheingold, and kept getting a blank screen when I went to register the battery. Anyone have any ideas what I can do to fix it? I can do a complete vehicle test and clear my modules, but when I click on the ABL to register the battery I get this blank screen.

When you register the battery.
When you register the battery.
From the 3 series service manual: Current Mileage is stored Stored values from old battery (charge status, current, voltage, temperature, etc.) are deleted Power management is initialized if you don't: "[...] the vehicle power management may not run properly and this can lead to function limitations for example: reduction or deactivation of individual consumer functions." |

Please someone, I can't figure out from Option5 >>Step 28.<< What do I do exactly? ...Thanks 27. Select: File>save as>FSW_PSW.MAN (be sure to select “save as type” to all files so that it will accept the “.MAN” extension. If you fail to do so it will just save it as a text file .TXT) >>28. CLEAR THE FILE (CTRL + A > back******* 29. Select: File >Save ThanxAgain for the share bud Last edited by Tabarnak; 02-10-2020 at 05:02 PM.. |

I have a E60 2007, does NOT have CAS/FRM, it has CAS/LMA I want to change -B110 to -B090 and then register the new battery. Can I follow Option5 and select LMA instead of FRM, and after I would register the battery with Tool32 a/p instructed in Option 3 ? *I can confirm there is a -B110 value in both CAS and LMA. MuchAppreciated - Last edited by Tabarnak; 02-13-2020 at 01:28 AM.. |

In case this help a fellow DIY, I can confirm that I have followed the protocol from my last post and it worked flawlessly. " I followed Option5 and selected LMA instead of FRM, after, I've registered the battery with Tool32 a/p instructed in Option 3 " Car charging a/p expected and battery registered properly. |

Thanks for sharing this great resources.
I found that this can be done with other less complicated scan tools as well. This guide on youcanic includes the instructions for various scanners. https://www.youcanic.com/wiki/bmw-ba...ming-procedure |

So instead of going through a huge step process like one of these or buying something overpriced, does anyone know if I can just reset the ECU instead? An ECU reset can be done pretty easily I've read and it is costless as well. Someone let me know

bNks334. Great post.
I just bought an 2009 e88, knowing it needed a new battery and the footwell (FRM) module replaced. I like to pay the dealer for things I can do myself, but I knew almost nothing about how to code/program a car. I found this guy's video on how to download the standard tools invaluable. And your post walked me right through how to change the battery from a regular wet cell to an AGM. (No a lot of batteries to choose from on the Big Island.) I've got the footwell module and am about ready to put it in. But thought I'd see if you have any advice or insight before I start in on that project. This video is the best I've found on how to do the coding. But it does not inspire quite the confidence your DIY does. Any thoughts on how to do it or on whether this video has it right? Thanks much. |

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone can help. My E88 2008 forgets the time and trip mileage all the time and the guys at Autozone tested the battery and said its fine. Also, the battery has the spot on top and it's black so it looks ok. I read somewhere that disconnecting the blue IBS cable from the battery cover might help and sure enough the car has stopped forgetting the time and trip miles. Question is.....what do I do now. Is it the IBS that's toast or is it possible that the battery that's in the car wasn't coded properly or even at all ? How can I tell ? I just downloaded INPA but haven't tried connecting it yet - a little nervous if I'm honest. I also have protools on my phone but only the coding license, not the diagnostics license. So, does anyone think it's likely that if I code the battery as if its a new one and reconnect the IBS my issues will be resolved or is it more likely that I have to replace the IBS and if I do how much more will I need to do as far as coding etc is concerned. Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

You guys might find this software bug interesting.
Heads up. Just because you code 60_agm doesn't mean CAS will accept it. |

Does a conventional 85AH need coding or just registering?
Hi,
Thank you very much for this thread! I need to replace an original BMW 80AH, 640A (61217604816) on my old BMW E91 M47 320D. If I buy an 85AH 800A battery (Varta for example), do I need to code it or just register it? What if I buy a 80AH EFB, would that need coding? (And would it be worth it to buy one instead?) |
