Quad exhaust for the 135i..
How easy do you think based on the undercarriage information we have, to turn the 135i into a quad exhaust car? (preferably close to equal length piping)
http://www.rsportscars.com/foto/12/bmw135i08_141600.jpg http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1340 To me it seems that the muffler would be fairly hard to work with (and flip upside down) because of it's downward facing inlet. Does anyone have some ideas? |

The only thing I can think of is a setup like the E46 exhaust, where there is a single muffler with 4 outlets. That's probably not the tough part though. I don't see a way to get the extra pipe and resonator to fit anywhere. I suppose the two resonators could be smaller, since they are only for 3 cylinders each, but I can't see a place for the piping.

What about a dual system? Similar to the pictures of the photoshopped M1 around the web...
I'm def. a fan of quad/dual tips, they give the car a sense of balance and symmetry from the rear. |

Duals are an option, but you would need an entirely new bumper, instead of simply modifying the current one.
What I am thinking after coming back to the issue is to simply put a Y pipe (close to equal length) behind the axle that way you won't have any problems with the inverted muffler and feeding full pipes to it.. |

They included a replacement black cladding piece that was molded specifically for their exhaust, so all you had to do was pop out the old cladding and put on the new. I've been trying to find the company on Google for a little while, but I gave up. Anyway...the 1er has cladding too, so there is no reason a good tuner could not do the same thing that this UK tuner did for the MINI. I'm sure many people would buy it too...I think the car would look way better with tips on both sides of the rear bumper...a little more performance and an aggressive sound never hurt anyone either. Well, not anyone I really care about. |

See in very common cars, I feel that the black cladding/diffuser on the car is probably going to be permanently attached to the above bumper.
If there was a proper exhaust with a proper black cladding piece, which would also make a somewhat louder sound, I'd be very enthusiastic to have that on a 135i. I think a lot of people would too. |

for me, it is a little too much - that is a lot of stuff for the back of the 1-er to carry off.
How functional do you want it to really be? I have seen POS cars where they just attach an extra tip to the other side..... |

How about this exhaust setup with the 1 series? This would have to include the rear plastic valence being discarded and a newly molded (maybe body colored) replacement. Thoughts?
link to pic attached... I tried to post the pic from my desktop but wouldnt allow. http://www.worldcarfans.com/9071006....sedan-revealed |

If you are talking about replacing the black plastic valance on the 135 and replacing it with one molded for a dual exhaust, aren't you basically repeating what I mentioned about 5 posts above? |

Krass I agree completely -- didn't see your post, I was actually referring to Legion's post in my response, not yours.
I cannot see why a whole new bumper is needed for a diff. exhaust setup. From all the pics I've seen the plastic portion looks separate and could be the only component of the rear bumper to be replaced. Similarly if someone had rear damage to the platic portion, it looks like the top half of the bumper could be salvaged with only the plastic portion replaced. At least thats how I see it :iono: ... won't know for sure until the car is out. |

I saw an AW 335i with a quad exhaust and gorgeous rims and a little bit of a euro body kit. I just had a feeling he had some software management too! The exhaust looked VERY nice. The next time I see him in my area I will honk him down.

Call me crazy, but I like the simplicity of the dual pipe exhaust on the 1.
I am sure we will see a boat load of after market parts for this car though.

Not sure if this is the company you were referring to or not, but Palo Uber has a dual exhaust and valance for the MCS:

No it wasn't Palo Uber. They only pretend their stuff is from the UK. But that's what I was talking about with the valance. Good pix, and a great depiction of what can be done when a tuner puts their minds to the task.

E46 M3 exhausts were generally 70%-150% more expensive than E36 M3 ones, all because of the dual-muffler designs... So if you want to pay around $1300-1500 for a dual muffler exhaust, I'm sure there will be companies out there which will accomodate you. Me, I'd rather pay $600-800 for a single muffler...

Keep in mind it's probably more idea to go single muffler four tip, because there is infinite room behind the rear axle and it wouldn't require rerouting the pipes, this would make huge sense. I have a distrust for the availability of after market parts, so I prefer working out how to do it simply easily and cleanly myself, I've seen some pretty bad exhaust so if it's done well a dual or quad exhaust would be a nice option.
