Are you referring to this?: http://www.bimmerfile.com/2010/06/02...-m1/#more-7017

1M has not been officially confirmed.

sorry misread it...I just hope its not one of those stupid names that take up the whole read deck lid...not that I will be buying one either way. The 135 is more than enough for me as a DD..but, I am sure it will be great. M cars are special--I had an M roadster and an M-3. They just have that "edge"

If they had a sense of humor it would be the M1-35i.

Don't forget the s-drive. They should probably consider spelling out the full BMW too. What do you drive? Oh, a Bayerische Motoren Werke M1-35i s-drive.

I'd say M2 it should be.
If it were a 2 series from the start, we wouldn't have these fun naming discussions.

I have been saying 1M forever. It can be an M1 without officially naming it an M1.

I really don't understand the fixation with the name. For all I care they can call it BMW Pinto - as long as it looks and pulls harder than the current 135i, it's all good

Oh yeah it'd also better be cheaper than a M3

I think there is some reading between the lines to be done here.

He says that the M-variant 1 series will not be named M1 due to the badge's heritage. However, I don't believe they are that sentimental and rather he is just towing the company line. A more logical, and strategic reason for keeping the M1 moniker reserved would be to allow redevelopment of the original M1 supercar at some stage. Remember, that is what the M1 was and moving forward is their best platform for releasing a new supercar (in respects to naming) - possibly off a number of the concepts recently released. Food for thought?

Some of us have pondered that before with the recent M1 Homage and Vision Efficient Dynamics concepts.

Whatever it will be called, there will be a lot of "HA! I TOLD YOU SO!" when the official name is released. I dont care what its called now, I'm just glad its not an M1.
