Pretty much...my dealer's explanation was that it is nearly impossible to have our cars stolen unless of course someone comes along and takes it on a tow truck. It cannot be hardwired like the old systems, and the computerized key fob is 100% required for the car to function. Based on this, they told me I don't really need an alarm system, but who knows, maybe they were just trying to make me feel better about my $40k+ car that comes without an alarm system haha

Does anyone know where the interior sensor is mounted on a Convertible?
Even though I do not have the alarm, (yet) the owner's manual explains that the interior motion sensor still works when the top is down, below the door level.
(If I had the alarm)

I opened the hood and there is a connector there for the alarm. Also, the "Clown Nose" under the mirror is clear and has the LED. The dome light on a vert is located top center of the rear view mirror.

BMW-USA sells the alarm for my car pretty cheap. I'm ready to buy. Does it come with any instructions? Not that it sounds very difficult.

And last of all, will DIY void any warranties? My car is a 2009, but only has 10K miles so I am still under mfg. warranty.

being that im looking to purcahse a '10 (135i) i had every intention on installing an aftermarket alarm....im assuming that there should be no problem if post 09' the cars did not come pre-wired?

IF your car did not come prewired (BMW stopped doing that durring the '09 M.Y.)from the factory - you can not install the BMW Alarm kit in your car.

I have a 09, and was able to install the BMW Alarm system with no problem.

However,

Under the hood, on the driver's side, there is a sticker...on top of the strut mount...that states something to the effect that any installation of a non-approved aftermarket device such as a alarm system, etc, etc, etc,....may cause electrical problems and void any warranties, blah blah blah....

If you are considering buying a new car, that does not have the factory alarm, speak with the dealership about this first.

- Has anybody in the US researched or executed an 1M Alarm retrofit?

Sounds as if coding is covered under new car warranty if you are still covered has anyone try this with the dealer?

"If vehicle is under warranty, the costs of programming prior to retrofit should use defect code 72 60 93 02 00"

Hi all, new 128 vert owner here. I am looking at getting the alarm and was wondering what the difference is between the coupe and vert kits are and does the 1 series come with the inclination sensor installed by the factory?

ahhh, crap...just had it programmed and they said it's not working :|...red nose blinks, but no noise.

tell them to do a PUMA case. and have the technicians from head office remote program it.

Vert is cheaper. I think its missing interior sonic sensor, all else is still there

He said the programming they did locally took ... but it didn't work, so doing a PUMA case makes no sense. I guess I am confused, I would have thought it'd just work after they programmed it? ... unless maybe my kit was faulty?

Any thoughts before I pay em $120 and have to go back to pay another $120 if I find out it's faulty or something silly?

Looks like it worked, the issue was the hood sensor is not being triggered ... nothing to hit it down! What did you guys do to add some buffer so the trigger is hit? Now that it is programmed, I have a hood latch is open alarm on the dash...I can pop the hood, push it, lock it, and release the hood latch and the alarm goes off, huzzah!

I just need something to push it down, that I can attach to the hood, what'd you guys use?

Good news too, I got them to only charge me $69~ for it too!

Anyone else have an issue with the hood switch not engaging when closing the hood? It's like half inch too low.
