You take a look at the engine ground strap/cable?
I recall that causing a no start/no crank symptoms while still having full battery and all dash lights etc working fine

dig a touch deeper and verify the starter cables themselves are in good nick as well since same symptoms would appear

I looked at the grounds and none were broken or anything unusual with them.
Shop diagnosed it as a starter failure as well. I even touched a couple up with a wire brush to ensure good contact.

They've got the starter off the car and off the car it wont extend the thing to the flywheel.
So its functional and works but just doesnt extend out to start.
Explains the faint noise I heard while pressing and holding the button

Failed to start Thursday morning, attempted a few things and looked at some stuff Thursday night. Didn't work.

Called and asked if I could get it in and how long the ETA was on turn around.
They said they'd try to get it done Saturday or today. So we'll see.

Had it towed to them around 10:30am friday. Then drove by Saturday to see if it was inside and it was. They called because my trunk wasnt opening, which is new. But the fobs battery died. My car has a replaceable battery in its fob.

Edit: $463 bucks later, my car starts again under its own power.
Would have liked to do something better than the autozone starter but time constraints limited that option. Wasn't waiting for fcp euro to ship one that still wouldn't be here even if ordered Thursday morning.(original estimate said this coming Wednesday)

New intake manifold gaskets, crank position sensor, starter and starter bolts. 3 hours of labor

So hopefully they'll have it done today. My backup beaters blend door failed and I have only defrost heat.

That is super cheap! Did they use an OE crank sensor?

No oe parts lol. All from autozone or similar.

FCPEuro has nearly a week delay to me. If i order today, id see it next monday.
Id order from ecs but everyone seems to not like them so I only get parts from fcp.
Id have loved to use FCP stuff but with their delay, i opted not too.
Plus my work extends whatever parts warranty to you. 1 year or lifetime or whatever.
So if my autozone starter dies under warranty, I get a new one installed free.

Also im an employee of this shop, so my labor is 55 an hour instead of 110.
As an employee I pay cost plus 10% on parts as well. So i got it alot cheaper than someone off the street.
124 for the starter, new not reman.
55 for intake gaskets
87 for crank sensor
3 hours at 55 an hour for labor plus tax.

I've never had an issue with ECS. FCP is great, I favor them because they have such good DIY videos it's like thanking them, but you are right that shipping takes forever. It can be 2 weeks to get something even out of their facility on the way, you have to plan way ahead and that basically just means maintenance. Rock Auto's been fine, they sell good brands as well as cheap unknowns. They do ship fast. Bimmerworld's been good too, they seem to have fewer items to start with but I've never had a problem, they ship quickly as well.

Next up, disassembly to hopefully replace countershaft bearing and pray that's what the issue was.

I'm going to create a new thread for this sillyness.

Cleaned all the wheel wells and started on the brake sensor/wheel speed sensor connector repair. I also replaced the connector cover boxes. The dirt and brake dust that washed out was almost endless.

I guess I’m lucky that I live in Connecticut. If I order early enough in the day through FCP, it’ll arrive next day. And that’s with normal shipping.

ECS has always been reliable, but with them being in Ohio, typically takes a couple days. Bimmerworld has upped their shipping game and I receive stuff from them quickly.

I like having the ability to cross shop the different sites for the same part to get the best deal possible. Depending on how much of a hurry I’m in for the part, I’ll pay more if I know it’ll arrive sooner.

I have no issues with ECS as a company. I just know to avoid some of the brands they offer now. *cough* BavAuto *cough*

I've refused to use ECS anymore since they updated their website with the stupid chat thing that dings on every tab you open. I've provided feedback, nothing changed. Big shock.

I've used their chat feature a few times and found it to be helpful, surprisingly. Also agree it's annoying.

Good car. ABS sensor replaced, tightened up swaybar endlink bracket, only light on the dash is TPMS now and all my suspension clunks are gone.

I avoid ECS. I'll pay more if I have to. They have no customer service interest, no quality control, literally throw broken or incorrect parts in the box with no packaging. They have no interest in only providing quality parts either, and as you mentioned offer garbage along side Genuine/OE.

I plainly refuse to give them business.

Photo of car after work to prove it exists.

My lil finned diff cover visible from the rear. Will try to cut off some of the exhaust clamp bolts hanging down. Guess I could have turned them in a bit. Not going to re-do them though.

Also might clean up a bit where i cut some fins on the left to not touch the exhaust. But so far pleased with the outcome. Mostly cosmetic? Maybe..

Btw, regarding sourcing parts, I usually stick with FCP and bimmerworld. Not sure where their prices fall compared to other places but have had nothing but positive customer experience from those two. Occasionally look for unobtanium items on eBay that are not outrageously priced.

Not my leak spot on the ground their btw. Shit I did the OFHG, valve cover, oil pan gasket, oil level sensor gasket, and shift shaft seal. Better damn well not be from me

I've only had good experiences with ECS and FCP (and Turner and BimmerWorld) and with all of them, shipping has been very quick, no long delays (unless the part was on backorder when I ordered it). Even with regular shipping (usually free), I get most orders within only a few days, often just 2 or 3 days.

No issues with ECS/FCP as well. FCP is really helpful on returns and exchanges and I’ve gotten extra credits from them in the last to move up to OEM parts during the return process.

The one thing I would love is if I could ship my oil back to the new FCP Arizona facility so I can save a bit more on lifetime oil changes.

It’s $50 or so to send it back to CT. Still can be worth it.

Cleaning up the CSL 345x28 rotors for when I put the summer wheels and tires back on in late March, early April. Not bad for 34k mile brake rotors.
