Purchase new AP for 1M?
Quick question: If I upgrade to the 1M Coupe, will I need to purchase another AccessPort? (currently drive a 2009 135 and have AP installed) Or would I simply download a new map since its an N54 engine as well?

I would guess that you'd need a whole new tune as that engine is different...

just a hypothesis but my guess would be that if you tuned the 1M which has an N54 you would get the exact same output as if you tuned an N54 135/335/535 but in a much more capable chassis

Then, since the 1M has 30hp more than the others, you would be getting less of an increase in performance for the same cost. It wouldn't be worth it.

I disagree with this entirely. It would still be money well spent. I would love it even more knowing that the chassis capabilities now match the engine output.

Do people in California, where they are limited to the 91 map, get a discount as well?

Entirely different point. BMS doesn't charge the same price for the JB+ and the JB4. Are reduced tune is essentially what you would be getting if they tuned the 1M to the same output as a 135. But if you think it is worth, you go for it.

The problem is that it's more than likely going to be the same unit which can already be used on the 1/3/535 and I'm not sure how they would limit it to only work on the 1M.

Found this post from Travis at COBB in their forums (on 4-11-11):
Right now we have support for the 2007-2010 N54 vehicles, we are working on adding support for all 2011+ vehicles, both the base N55 and the M-coupe N54, however, we do not have a release date for that support right now. So perhaps this does confirm that we can use the same AP for the 1M Coupe? Probably a new map... I do agree with the above. Logically, it would in all likelihood be a similar tune as my 135i, with the obvious added 1M goodies including LSD, suspension, etc.

as far as it goes for the 1M, you cant say it should be cheaper for the 1M since you dont get as much performance as the 135i. Specially using the jb+ to jb4 comparison, its not apples to apples. Those are two diff products which yield diff results. In this case, its the same product and will yield the same outcome, you just wont see the same % gains since you had more power to start Quote:

i would think their (COBB's) time is probably better spent heads down working on Stage 2, the N55, refining and updating the Stage 1 maps, and actual development rather than wasting their time reading and answering thread after thread on multiple forums every day. I'm all for communication and you do have a point. Just my opinion though...

I'm not asking them to release the product untested, id just like someone to drop by and say " hey xxxx at cobb here, were doing testing of atr/stage 2/whatever and things are going well, should be ready for release end of may" something like that, not silence.

might be worth calling or emailing Cobb directly to get the answer... I doubt they'll read every single post and answer every single question.

Its simple why they dont give release dates, they cant factor in outside problems that may interfere with deadlines. Instead of saying 2 weeks. They just show up like they always do when its complete.
They got held up on the 07 support IIRC which slowed down other things. They do have other stuff they sell besides COBB AP units for BMW's. They make a lot of products for other cars too. They cant put all their eggs in one basket either. Dont get me wrong I've been patiently waiting for ATR's release too. I got my Cobb AP for www.topgearsolutions.com and Jeff said what he's heard from the grapevine is stage 2 in the next few weeks. How much truth is there we dont know as he said its just speculation from other members perhaps. |
