That's awesome. How hot was the weather that day? Were you running your wedge tune on track? Any changes on the cooling settings via MHD? Sorry for all of the questions, but just some of the thoughts that popped in my head.

~65F and overcast, by that session. Earlier ones were rainy so didn't stress the system. Rarely have track days over 75F up here. Yes, Wedge custom stg 2. Yes, MHD cooling set to "track". I need to look at the recorded data tonight to see what temp actually peaked at. I was going off the dash gauge. Honestly, I expected the second cooler would lower it more, but bringing down the peak by 15F isn't bad, I suppose. My choice to go with stock coolers. If my skills improve next season and temps start getting to 270F again, I may have to investigate some more efficient setrabs that fit in the same spot, I suppose. This never ends, does it? On a related note...255 square RE-71s and KW coilovers make for an awesome track car you can still DD... |

It really never does end. If it did, we wouldn’t have anything to work on lol.
Thanks for the update!

Ok, so i am close to buying an oil cooler. I have decided i would prefer to use the OE mounting location/rubber washer mount thingies are a solution that at least uses the factory mounting location. I want to avoid drilling new holes into the frame. Done it on many prior cars and it really isn't a big deal, but i do not want to do it this go around.
So there is the ER and Stett kits, but they are both pricey. Never mind about the rest of this post, I called rev9 and they said the kit most likely wouldn’t fit a 1 series. So unless someone has tried it already I am assuming it doesn’t fit. I came across these three, which for the most part appear to be the same but the range in price is $200 from lowest to highest cost. The surface area based on the measurements is bigger than the er core. The mount looks different on the one from the rev9 website but all three use the same description and mention the rev9 kit. The mount appears to have holes large enough that would use the oe rubber mounting washers, which is great for me. Has anyone installed one of these? Is this HW complete trash? Also, all of them say for three series and N54. Is it safe to assume they would fit the 1er as well? GPLUS $152 https://www.amazon.com/335I-Bolt-Coo...HEB7GZGBW7DS3D Rev9power $240 https://www.amazon.com/Rev9Power-Rev...ickstream_2_dp Rev9 $350 https://rev9power.com/review/product...4/category/51/

I have the rev9, it does not fit a 1 series.

Thanks.
imported_mega : we’re you able to get it to fit? If so, what did you have to do? bbnks2 : we’re you able to use the mount that came with the kit in the amazon link? I remember reading you made your own mount, but that was on your 128i.

I started looking into pricing to build my own kit. Based on the total i am seeing, the price ends up being similar to the cost of an ER Sport Oil cooler (I have a quote for $675 shipped). Shroud would be another $85). Now i know i may be able to get some things a little cheaper, but if i add the price of the oil cooler line adapter from Hard Race or Mishimoto ($66), i am getting really close to the price of the ER Sport Oil cooler. Here is a picture of the Cart for a DIY kit. Doesn't include the oil cooler line adapter or additional brackets to build a mount. If my the qtys and pricing are reasonable, it seems like buying the kit is the better option. Am i missing something/anything?
The other thing that is messing with me is this post on S p o o l s t r e e t https://bmw.s p o o l s t r e e t.com/threads/aluminum-quick-connect-fittings-diy-auxiliary-radiator-kit.5758/ (take out the spaces on s p o o l s t r e e t). Basically, this member is saying an aux radiator cooler is the way to go based on his experience doing track days in hot and humid weather overseas. So do i do that instead?

My setup is:
2 Gplus cores (~25 row) Rubbing in-line Smmit steel An10 lines w/ vibrant fittings. Pretty happy with their performance, just need to buy some ducting from ER or continue my ghetto fab of everything and weld/build some myself I'm planning to build new brackets soon once I figure out the new Alumalite splitter size/dimensions (officially a wear item lol)... Zipties aren't permanent in three pictures haha but my aluminum brackets connected to the headlight bracket quite suboptimal. Thanks for the pics on here, like the idea of them mounted to the frame. I don't think most people know how easy it is to install/fab a custom high performance cooler so I really like the idea of this thread

I would say your estimate is about right. Your pricing is pretty similar to what mine ending up being as well, and I pieced mine together from Summit Racing. With the addition of the housing in the ER kit, I would seriously consider just going that route.
Here's how I look at it. If you're trying to pinch pennies and want to keep the cost as low as possible, then make your own kit for $100 less and be prepared to spend a little more time DIY-ing the setup. If you don't mind spending a little more and having less headaches and less tinkering to deal with, then go with the ER setup. |

AndyW, how is the oil cooler install holding up? Any more leaks? Does the mishimoto banjo fittings clear the hood?

After going back and forth on buying vs making, i finally realized the right solution for me is right in front of my face! My plan is to try and copy AndyW.
After hearing it is holding up well and working, it seems like a nice blend of DIY and OE pieces. And i am honestly not in love with any of the Kits. It is going to take some time because i would like to buy used parts where possible. I tried to come up with a parts list. Would this be everything? Passenger side factory oil cooler parts: BMW parts: 17117602241 – Radiator 51647154545 – Bumper Carrier Bracket 07147144953 – Hex Nut with Plate, Qty 2 17217540030 – Radiator Mount 17227567207 – Oil Cooler Line Out 17227567208 – Oil Cooler Line Return Misc parts: Mishimoto 90 degree AN-10 to 1.5 x 20mm, Qty 2 90 degree Summit twist-tite AN-10 hose end 45 degree Summit twist-tite AN-10 hose end Conical Seals AN-10, Qty 2?

Mishimoto part # is MMBB-10ANBK Conical seals part # is EAR-169110ERL 45 degree - SUM-260086B 90 degree - SUM-260087B You will also need: 07119903995 - Hex Bolt, M6X20-U2-8.8 51742157684 - Duct kit - this has everything you need to relocate the horns as well. The 135i oil line part #'s are 17227573274 17227573273 But if you are sourcing used the 335 ones will be fine as well since you are cutting them down. You will also have to knock out the welded in bolts on the 51647154545 – Bumper Carrier Bracket - they are too short. I sourced two SS bolts locally. Here are some good threads to read. https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1103061 https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1005490 Feel free to contact me with questions.

Put together a setup using the mishimoto banjo fittings, and my own DIY cooler setup. Still getting it together, but enough that I was able to go for a drive today and noticed the same thing; the new path gets hot much more rapidly than the factory path. Could this configuration be bypassing the thermostat? Need a diagram of the oil filter housing. The new oil cooler was hot to the touch and the factory cooler was almost cool to the touch.
