"knocking" noise from front end when turning wheel (SOLVED)
Vehicle: 2011 135i DCT- stock m-sport suspension
I have noticed that when pulling out of my apartment complex at an angle to avoice scraping my front bumper cover, I am hearing a loud "knock" noise from the front end. It is one single noise per accurance, and it feels like something is hitting the underside of the floor board. Also, the noise presents itself when I am stationary and turn the wheel full lock. Again, when reproducing the noise this way, it feels as though something is hitting the underside of the floor. The noise is not present at higher speed than what I would get up to in a parking lot (or at least it is undetectable at a higher speed). I have an appointment with BMW next Wednesday to have them take a look at it. I just wanted to make a quick post here to see if anyone else has ever experienced something like this. If anyone has any information that might be helpful, I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance guys! Last edited by jonathan13; 04-28-2015 at 02:42 PM.. |

I ordered new bushings yesterday, which are set to arrive today. Once they have been replaced, I will report back to let everyone know if it takes care of the issue.

Cool thanks for the update! Maybe you can post the part number or a pic of said bushing?

I also want to add that most of the time when these bushings go bad, people will upgrade to the m3 component. I did not want to spend the extra money myself, but it is definitely something to look into if these bushings need replacement.

That is not actually the lower control arm bushing, it is the torque rod bushing. Believe it or not, if you install the M3 TRW OEM version of that arm, it is about the same price of just the OE bushing.

Thank you for the correction. I was going off of what my estimating software calls it. It has it labeled as a "front lower control arm & bushing". I checked into the M equivalent, and it was going to be quite a bit more expensive for me.

Yup. Also, Meyle HD makes a great replacement bushing for the tension strut.

I work for a group of dealerships, so I was able to get employee pricing on the bushings, AND they messed up and priced them to me as being a pair of two, so when they came in and they realized it should be priced EACH, I ended up getting both bushings for $56.

I think in the BMW(euro world) it can also be called a "thrust rod".
