I would say get a PE if you can. They aren't all that much for the 128i models.
Secondary cat and resonator delete is a cheaper route to go, with good results.

Was wondering this as well, of course the PE muffler would be optimal sound for myself, it is on the pricer end. With that in mind I believe I'm going to try resonator delete and see how that goes for now then save up for the PE.

I originally had the BMW performance muffler, and thought it sounded great, but wanted my 128 to be slightly louder. I went with the secondary cat delete and it is the perfect volume and sound now. Not too loud or drony with the windows up but sounds great with them down.

Pick up a 135i muffler and delete 2ndary and resonator.
It sounds as good as it gets with 128i. |

Did you delete the secondaries and resonator at the same time? Do you know what sound difference each one makes? I'm going to hack off secondaries or resonator but don't want to touch the one that's going to affect low frequencies and drone.

Unfortunately, both came off at once.
PE Only = Great sound but tame. SS1+SS2+Stock = Slightly louder than stock but less volume than PE SS1+SS2+PE = Loud. Drone at anything more than 1/3 Loud pedal SS1+SS2+135i = Moderately loud. Zero drone. Very similar to traditional BMW I6 with slightly aggressive exhaust setup. It will pop and crackle if you choose. Loud without being obnoxious but can be quite (Similar to PE volume inside cabin) if you don't drive aggressively. **SS1 = Secondary delete pipes from SuperSprint **SS2 = Resonator delete section from SuperSprint Search on Youtube soemthing like 135i msd esd 125i 130i That usually brings up 125i or 130i with resonator delete and 135i muffler setup. As far as I know most of those Euro cars do not have secondaries so you will get a good idea of the setup. |

Or you could go with a Stage 3 intake, AA headers, aFe intake, Magnaflow cat-back, and a re-flash from AA, tweaking all the usual stuff and actuating the DISA valves in the intake...now you'll have incredible sound...and the speed to go with it.

It's not exactly a "catless" header...there are still cats after the headers...and the car is still 49 state clean...

i did a muffler delete on mine and its not bad at all, not stupid loud but still rowdy enough to enjoy the tone. You do get a bit of drone when cruising but its really nothing sounds great.

I'm considering a vibrant resonator. The volume is great but the tone leaves a little to be desired. |

My current set up is AA headers + axle back exhaust with my secondaries and resonator still on (128i N52). I'm debating on either keeping my secondaries and getting a section 2 delete or getting the Supersprint Section 1 straight pipes with their section 2 tuned resonator. Anyone have any experience or take on this set up? The car isn't my daily so the noise won't be an issue I just wouldn't want it to be drone-y too raspy.

Resonated delete brings minimal sound a weird low tone drone. I enjoyed it tbh but it left a lot to be desired. At the moment I have the muffler and resonated delete and I love my popcorn machine!!
