Anyone run F80 M3 18" sizes on 1M?
I'm thinking of going 18" on current 1M. I originally had 18x9 ET 31 and 18x10 ET25 APEX EC-7s with stock sizes on my previous 1M but sadly sold them when I sold the first car. They were 245/40/18 front and 265/40/18 rear. This set up was outstanding. Made the car a little less darty on bad roads and handled very well and rode better.
I really would like to try a set of BBS RIA wheels but they only come in 18x9.5 front and 18x10.5 rear so I would need to go wider tires. I know the popular setup is 265/35/18 front and 285/30/18 rear but these make for smaller diameter tires. On a high revving N/A M3 that's great, the car gets into the power band quicker but on our lower redline turbo cars, that is not so good. Also, we will be adding 3-4 percent more miles to the car due to the incorrect odometer calibration. 275/35/18 and 295/35/18 would be the closest in diameter to stock diameter but I have haven't seen anyone running 295/35/18 rears. I have seen some list 295/30/18 in rear. Then I realized that the F80 M3 runs 255/40/18 in front. this is .2" larger diameter in front and 275/40/18 rear which is .4" larger in rear. Has anyone run thiese sizes on a stock 1M? The BBS RIAs are 18x9.5 ET27 and 18x10.5 ET 25. Thank you. PS, I don't like 18x9.5 ET22 in front. I know it's popular but popular is not better often. I don't like how they look sticking out and I don't like the extra steering loading/effort that comes with this offset so I would go for the special order ET27 in front which is closer to 1M stock offset. |

I have run 275/35/18 and 285/30/18 track tires all around on 18x 10 ET 25.
I have also run 285/30/18 on 10" up front and 305/30/18 on 10.5" in the rear (BFG-R1). I would stick with the lower profile options... the 40 aspect ratio sidewall on the M3 I believe was due to the fact that it does not have wide enough fenders which is not an issue on the 1M. you should have no issues with the 275 up front (aside from potential rub at full lock - simply take care when in tight maneuvers) not hard to do... and I still have the original fender liners. I agree with you on the ET... I would get as close as possible to stock as the wider tires will already stick out of the front fender wells a bit. |

there are people running F80 M3 wheels on the 1M Owners Society (FB).
Plenty of us run 18s as Winter tires. These are M219s from the E90 M3. Fit great. I think the car has pros and cons on 18s vs 19s. Turn in feels better on 19s, but on 18s the overall steering feel is better, IMO. I personally prefer smaller wheels, but love the look of the OEM 359s so i wouldn't permanently change to 18s myself. Because i use 2 sets of wheels for winter vs. summer i get to use 18s for at least 4 or 5 months out of the year. I like the contrast.

Love the looks of the OEM 19s but the car is more nimble with the smaller lighter shoes. update on autocross set RE-71 R in 285/30/18 fit perfectly on my 18 X 10 wheels. |
