MHD help. Car doesn't like anything other than stock
So as the title states… I finally finished my long adventure of going from Pure stage 2 that had no bottom end, had custom tuning done and still, floor it and had 1.5 second delay before anything happened. Once it spooled it would pull hard but highway pulls just ain’t my cup of tea. Finished putting stock turbo back onto car and had my mechanic do a full bench reset of the ECU to stock. Car runs beautiful and it will actually squeal tires and drift. (It’s not done this in the 2 years I’ve had it)
My problem is this…I tried flashing with my MHD super license to stage 2+ and got engine malfunction codes. Boost sensor issues. Went back to stock and it went away. Tried again tonight, made sure to have battery charger and everything went ok with the flash. Stage 2, boost sensor codes right on start up. Went to stage 1, same thing. Stage 0, same… flash to stock remove MHD, runs perfect no codes. Does this mean I actually have a boost sensor issue, or does my car just not like MHD? For reference I was tuned on MHD with a wedge map before I started all this and never had any error messages.

Solved! So previous owner told me the car had a 3.5 T-map sensor. It in fact does not. All I did was change from 3.5 sensor to oem in the flashing menu and it all came up and it runs beautiful now.

Wow, I wonder if that explains the spool problems you had with your ps2? Are you gonna throw that ps2 back on and give it another try?

Wondering the exact same thing. I’ve been planning to go PS2 but like the OP I also like bottom end and would rather have less power if it means less lag so now I’m thinking maybe just PS1 instead

There are a million questions I have regarding my car and how it performed… from the map sensor being different, upon my latest custom tune finding the sensor was actually unplugged… yeah, a LOT of questions. I know for a fact I did not experience what a PS2 running well can do. That being said, I really don’t think the instant response the stock turbo does it comparable to the PS2. With the stage 2+ now it has WAY more bottom end, it will walk and wiggle the rear at will, and the mid range feels as strong if not stronger than the ps2 did. It definitely drops off after 5500 or so rpm but I’m gladly giving that up for the bottom end fun. My driving style likes a bit of power sliding, quick bursts of speed and good response. The 1.5-2 second delay between full throttle and anything meaningful happening with the PS2 is a well forgotten distant memory.
If I was doing it all over again knowing what I know now…I might go PS1 or what’s now called the pure500. But honestly, the ability to buy the MHD super license for $400 or whatever it was and know the car will Have a solid tune and run like hell….yeah I think I’ll take the trade offs of the stock turbo vs having to Find a custom tuner and be at their mercy.
