'Golf Tee' Mod... using a ball bearing
Hi all,
Not sure how many of you have seen the Golf Tee mod threads on here and E90 post e.g. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5683 This mod is for the 135i and 125i only (twin exhaust). I have purchased 10 x 5/32" ball bearings, which I will obviously be using one to plug the rubber hose. If anyone is going to do the same mod, pm your details and I will send a ball bearing when I have done it. First 8 people gets one (keeping a spare). I only ordered them online today, so won't have them for 5-7 days. For anyone who hasn't read the above, it basically makes the exhaust note slightly better as it stops a flap closing and muffling the noise at low revs and idle. Generally the flap opens at higher revs providing a more 'throaty' sound. This should allow the noise to be slightly better at low rpm. Simple mod really and well proven on E90 Post. Cheers moff

Hey Moff. I admit I'm new to this but think I've understood what's involved. I'm definitely interested, but I'll wait to see how it works for others on here as I'm not as knowledgeable about what might go wrong. As I see it, if the valve is normally closed at start-up, the noise shouldn't really be different with this mod? I'm keen to get a louder start-up/idling noise, so I'll see what people think (yes OK I'm chicken). If I miss my chance to get a ballbearing off you, it's my own fault!

Hi Snake,
From reading the posts on E90 Post it seems fairly simple to me. Remove the pipe from the exhaust, insert tiny ball bearing and replace - job done, valve remains permanently open providing a louder idle etc. The BB's arrived today... tiny little feckers, hope they are big enough - I did order the size recommended on E90 Post and on here - 5/32 inch.... Will send out as soon as I receive SAE's pm me if you are interested. Cheers moff

Isn't it today you pick up your car? I bet you are looking forward to it. Shame you have to run it in to 1200. I bet your foot will be itchy! Enjoy

Yep, picked her up on Friday!
Gorgeous.... the car really is amazing (as you know!) Installed the ball bearing, was really easy to do and worked a treat! Also installed the BMS Intake which sounds amazing. I have 'accidentally' hit 5k rpm twice and I am so impressed with the engine! Got loads of business miles coming up so should be nicely run in within 2 weeks. Just got to find someone to install Riss Racing CDV now! Will do a full review with lots of pics as soon as I upload them
