I know on some garage openers you need to press a button on the opener to begin the process of allowing a new device to activate it. Then I believe you press the desired button in the car to be the opener and hold it until the two link up. I think - it's been awhile since I did mine.

I had issues too. I just kept trying to get the GDO remote to be learned from different distances. It turned out that GDO remote had to be about an inch from the mirror in my case. I did finally get the confirmation that it was learned. Once I got the confirmation, I just pressed the learn button on the GDO unit, and then hit that button on the mirror.. worked like a charm.

Most garage door openers built in the last 6-10 years will require the opener to learn the code of the car, rather then the car learning from the remote. It's a safety measure that uses some sort of rolling code system and minor encryption to prevent unauthorized remotes from opening your door.

I have the secret fix for this.
This has happened to me before, simply following the instructions and wipe all the codes from the car. Then try the process over again. For some reason, my 3 year old GDO wouldn't recognized the car until I did this. After that, I press the button on the GDO (puts it into learning mode) press the button you like in the car...presto.

If the unit is having trouble learning, it may also be helpful to try one of the secondary buttons on the original remote (Homelink told me they have a higher TX power) or replacing your batteries. Varying the distance also helps. If all else fails their customer service is one of the best I have experienced. They knew just how to fix the problem I was having. If you need more help, post your Make/Model of GDO as well as what the blinky lights are telling you.

I agree, my remote opens the garage from 4 times the distance the car does. Sometimes I need to be in my driveway to get the door to open.

hold down button 1 until it blinks quickly then press the button on the garage door remote repeatedly (keep the remote about 8" away from the home link). i had to do this several times before it snatched the code. next press the learn button on the garage door opener itself then hit the 1 button in the car, next hit the learn button again and all should be well

Getting Genie intellicode to work
Quote:
It would train at 1 inch away, but based on the code learned from the remote, homelink never was able to complete training via the receiver unit. After many tries following the instructions exactly and repeatedly failing with it, I finally found an older, larger remote, and that one worked the first time around: 1. train 1 inch from homelink; 2. get on the ladder and press the train button on the receiver, and 3. press homelink button a couple of times. Anyone else trying to train with a really small intellicode may want to find a bigger one to train with. Hope this helps some people out. |

thanks to everyone on this forum. I picked up my new car on Sunday and have been trying to program the damn Homelink for hours!
FYI... like many, I had to have my remote an inch from the mirror to recognize and then I had to hit the button on my Craftsman GDO, and then the homelink again. But that worked like a carm. Thanks!

I must have an older GDO, I simply took the remote opener with me when we did PCD and the SA programed it into the car. We did have to hold the remote about an inch from the mirror and with the remote facing the mirror the same as it would face the garage door.
