Any weight saving overall is good, especially 30+ lbs at the end of the car. if your idea of keep the extra 30 lbs in the trunk is to aid in traction, you should look into a LSD to solve your problem.

The 21 lb is just a bit more than 1/3 of the oem battery. You should be able to play the oem audio system for an hour.

You only need a trickle charger on it if you were to let the car sit for more than 2 weeks. |

30 minutes if you really take your time. There is no fault codes associated with installing this battery unless you are doing it with your key in the ignition or cross the wires. When installation is required, I don't call it plug and play.

I am interested.
What do you mean "Some vehicles may require "Battery Replacment Registration" for the charging system to properly charge the battery."? My 135 has no iDrive or Nav, does it require the "Battery Replacement Registration" and what is involve? Which one will equal or better than OEM in terms of cranking power and battery life? Thanks for the answers in advance.

Are these known for causing 'Increased Battery Discharge' errors?
I bought my 2012 135i used and the car had some work done by your shop according to the previous owner. He did not mention a battery swap, but I took my car in for service today because the 'increased battery discharge' warning along with stuff like comfort access not working was really, really annoying. Turns out I have an "aftermarket racing battery" in the car which isn't "strong enough" for the car. So now I'm paying $550.44 to get a proper battery purchased and installed and "coded". I've asked them to leave the aftermarket battery with the car so I can try and determine exactly what the problem is/was. I'm embarking on a 2300+ mile car trip in 2 weeks and the last thing I needed was a battery issue which is why I'm having them replace it now. Any suggestions on what might have happened would be great. I'll post more information on the battery once I have it in hand. Last edited by whostorm05; 05-16-2012 at 04:53 PM.. |

Confirmed it's a HP Autowerks tray with a 21 lb Braille battery. Should I msg you directly to try and determine what was causing the fault codes if no fault codes should be thrown?
Notes from the tech: Interrogated fault memory. Performed energy diagnosis. Vehicle shut off due to start capability limit. Checked battery state of charge, 15%. Inspected the battery and found an incorrect capacity battery installed (aftermarket). Replaced the battery wtih a BMW battery. Registered the battery replacement. Calibrated the steering angle sensor. Cleared fault memory. So was the car not properly charging the battery fully? I might burn down the BMW dealership if the 'increased battery discharge' warning comes back even with the factory battery installed. |

You can also buy the mounting tray alone if you already have the Braille battery:

My stock battery must be 5ish years old now so I ordered me a lightweight battery from HPA today. I'm looking forward to see how much this helps with my rear tire rubbing issue, and the extra space gained by removing the stock battery free up some valuable storage space also!
