It's like holy war! E90 vs IS
Check out this thread at ClubLexus about IS350 vs. 330i.
http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=186171 Emotions are overboard! Lots of fun comments like: "adding further back pain from nasty BMW rides" Hilarious read. Have fun.

What a bunch of complete, unmitigated pussies. Only a group of skin tight t-shirted, metrosexual comfortfocused Dwell magazine reading brand whores would make statements along the lines of:

What the hell do these people like for dinner? Steamed prunes? Warm milk? Unsalted buttered toast? Ohhh, I know the BMW handles better, but my arms-- ohhh, the humanity! And the BMW motors make my ears so deaf with all their motory noises. You know what? Those pampered fools can have their gussied up Toyota. New piece of advice- if you are having a difficult time deciding between the IS and the E90- pick the IS. We don't want your kind in the BMW camp, you've been wussifying us for years. Take your god damn down comforter of a Japanese mass market luxo-barge car and go suck on your thumb in the slow lane. I'll be on the right, passing you. |

ZenDriver,
You said it perfectly! Do these people even know how to really drive a vehicle?? Probably not, the bingo game isn't that far from the "home". The boat hit the dock today with my 330i, should have it this weekend and I can't wait. |

Overall they are no different from average forums, but I find one thing to be very pathetic:
They suspended people for offering different opinions. Childish name-calling, personal attacks, insults with profanities, those are the things that I can understand being suspended for. But the mods there basically said "This is a Lexus forum, so you should be praising Lexus here, you can post a few negative comments, but when we tell you to stop, you better stop. You can only dislike Lexus a little, not a lot." I don't think anybody here's been suspended for expressing their opinions no matter how negative they were about E90s or BMWs in general. Sure most negative comments can't stand for long since many people will come to defend, but our discussions get quite ugly too and nobody's been punished for saying what's on their mind. I mean damn, if everything's all nice and soft like marshmallows, how are we ever gonna learn anything new, different and interesting? |

When you try to be something that you're not, eventually it shows.
BMW has been on a mission to create the ultimate driving machine for a long time. Not a racing machine, not a riding machine, not a washing machine - a driving machine... get it? They've paid their dues and understand the importance of achieving the right balance of power, handling, creature comforts and convenience for people who love to drive. No doubt the IS350 is a great car. But its a different car than a 330i - ultimately a car for folks with different priorities. If people want it to be something that its not, well.... whose problem is that? When you get the DVD that comes in the mail, watch it. It will give you a good sense of just how fanatical is BMW about getting stuff right. Is the E90 perfect? - of course not - but the mindset of the designers, artists, and engineers strikes me as relentlessly focused to keep doing what they do best. If Lexus wants to build a better Bimmer than BMW, it'll probably take 'em a few more if not many more iterations, but I seriously doubt anyone at BMW entertains the goal of building a better Lexus than Lexus. .

Eh, different strokes for different folkes.
I don't perticularly like audi. But, that doesn't mean it's a bad car. I know alot of poeple who would prefer and audi to a BMW. People might prefer the lexus, however I have heard some unfavorable things about it. I have a cousin in the USA - who only buys lexus. First it was the old IS, now it's an RX330. Why does she spend so much money on a lexus? Cause it's her money - and she likes the lexus. My other cousin in the states only buys BMW's. They don't make comments to eachother about the cars, the one likes the sporty handling and performance and style and class and image that comes with the bmw and the other likes the technology, comfort and executiveness of the lexus. if all the cars were the same perfect, it would defeat the point of having a choice. |

The weird thing was, the whole time I was test driving the IS350 I kept thinking how stiff the suspension was. And the one I was driving didn't have the package with the "sport suspension" included.
I immediately scurried back over to the BMW dealer to drive a 330 (to make sure I was going to keep my deposit on one and not immediately buy the IS) and the first thing I noticed was that the 330 did a whole lot better job soaking up bumps. The steering was heavier, no doubt. But the suspension felt a couple of notches softer. I suspect a lot of the comments are coming from people that've never really spent any appreciable time in both cars for comparison. They just bought what they liked and now they feel the need to justify why their choice was the right one ... human nature. I looked a whole lot of cars/suv's this weekend because I'm tired of waiting for the 330. And the way I look at it, the way a lot of other lesser vehicles were priced, you're a smart consumer if you buy either the e90 or the IS; there's no real wrong choice between the two. Now if you'd spent that kind of scratch on a Volvo S60 or a Lexus ES I'd call you an idiot. |
