Nick (and everyone else) just click the red/yellow flag under the members name... and write in the form why this person should be taken to task. Then we Mods will deal with them! He has been taken care of.
Getting back on track... I have seen many 1er's with e46 wheel offset wheels on them! I think 8's on the front are as wide as you can go with e46 offsets. Dack

post the widths and offsets
what you need to do is go to this website link below, and type in the OEM wheel widths and offsets, and that of the wheels you want to compare. the most aggressive fitment would be something like +15 - 18 in the front and rear over stock. the OEM wheel offsets IIRC are +49 on 7.5" wheel in the front and +52 on an 8.5" wheel for the rear. here is an example calculation, and why e46 m3 rear wheels will not fit on this car. using 8.5 et 52 for the 135 and 9.5 et 27 for the m3, this fitment would be exactly like running a 38mm spacer on your stock rear 18s. as you can imagine, that would come nowhere near fitting. the most aggressive you want to get in the rear over stock is about 15mm. http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

M5/5-series uses really low offsets, around the 20's while your 1-series is around the 40's to 50's. Unfortunately, M5 wheels will be way too aggressive for the 1. E46 wheels, fronts may work, rears will be too aggressive.
