snatch up a 128i now or wait for 228i?
wanting to pick up my first bmw.
seeing how the production of the 1 series has come to an end, it is now or never to pick up a new 128i. to me, the main difference is the engine. do you guys prefer the NA6 or TT4? i've heard the NA6 in 128i is a gem, smooth and likes to rev, plus it's a NA so no turbo lag. but the TT4 has better mileage, a lot more torque and slightly more hp. besides the 228i is a brand new model while the 128i is the outgoing one. tl;dr: budget for 128i or 228i. whatcha guys think? |

if i were you, i'd get a 128. it's simple....it's REAL....and the fact that you're even considering it shows me that you care enough about the more 'pure' driving experience. |

Maybe a manual tranny would help... More driver involvement.

was there too much delay in the turbo? if so, how is that different from your 135i which is also turbo charged? |

the car itself (328) was boring as hell. bad steering...bad handling.....i fear the 228 will have some of the same issues. The 228 will be lighter, so i'm sure it will be much better than the 328...but still doesn't seem too exciting, IMO. there really is no comparison between the N20 and the N55. it's a totally different feeling having a turbo inline 6 vs. a 4 cylinder. The N52 isn't too powerful, but is very sweet...much nicer than the very average N20. You really should go drive those cars and see for yourself... Last edited by IEDEI; 10-29-2013 at 10:37 PM.. |

I'd get the 1 - it's your last chance for a NA straight 6 and hydraulic steering
While the new 2 looks nice, it will still have all the new BMW non-value add features like EPS, ECO modes, A.S.S. |

They are not taking orders anymore, right? I believe production has ended so you're going to have to search inventory and get the best deal you can for what's available.

That's gonna be bad because I've search the 40 mile radius for new inventory and there's only one that matches my liking except it also has the premium pack |

My understanding is that production has stopped. Go to the BP homepage and scroll down. There was a story on it last week.

I'd keep waiting cause I imagine most people who really wanted a 1-series are enthusiasts who likely ordered theirs as they are a pretty low volume car. So, the ones on the lot are likely to just sit there for awhile. But hopefully one that's spec'd exactly how you'd want it is our there somewhere, just gotta look. |

There's like 20 dealers within 50 miles of LA, so tons out there. Not sure if you're looking for stick though as that may be the hard one to find. But check out the inventory of places like Crevier BMW, Beverly Hills BMW had 19 but I think all were auto, Nick Alexander BMW, and also try Pacific BMW as many out of state people use them and get amazing deals. So, if they don't have what you want, they might be able to do a dealer exchange and get you a great deal. Someone in texas on here just had Pacific get a car for them and that's where I got mine back in February for $4k off, and that was on an ordered car. Would have been $5200 off if I took one they had in stock. I imagine the discount will be slightly less since I wasn't pricing 128s. It's worth exploring though. |
