+1, I have these as my winter shoes on the RS 4 and love them! With that said, I had Blizzak LM25s prior, and thought they were just about equal. I would personally not drive the 1///M in the winter (given I have a better all weather vehicle for foul/ski days), but if I ever considered a winter setup, the Dunlop 3Ds or Blizzaks would be my top choice.

Thought I would start up this discussion again. These are the wheels that I mentioned in one of my earlier posts:
I think they will look awesome on a White 1M. Specs are: 18X8.0" Front, 18x9.0 Rear Bolt Pattern: 5x 120 mm Offset: 37mm front and rear Bore Size: 72.6 mm I'd like to use the Dunlop SP Wintersport 3D tires of the following sizes: F: 235/40R18 R: 255/40R18 For the OEM wheels, I assume the same bolt pattern, but Front: 19x9.0 31 mm offset and Rear: 19x10.0 25 mm offset. Now, I did the following calculations using the www.rimsandtires.com wheel calculator and came up with the pdf at the end of this post. Does anyone who is more of a tire/rim expert them me forsee any fitment issues with this setup? If not, I'm going to pull the trigger soon on these wheels.

I'm thinking Nokian Hakka 7 studded 225/45-18 on an 18x8 wheel.

Tirerack.com has a lot of winter packages for the M3 which presumably work on the 1M. Most, however, are 19" wheels. Not sure 255s on the rear would be a wise idea for winter conditions. I was considering the following: |

This is what I used on my e46 M3 without spacers.TR Motosport C2(Light Grey Painted). & Perelli Winter 240 Sottozero Serie II(Performance Winter/Snow)235/40 18. I plan to use 12 mm spacers with these. I have been driving in Buffalo NY since 1977 and have owned BMWs since 1994. Our weather is very changeable and I put them on 11/1 and take them off 4/1. During this time I travel to both Vermont and North Carolina. These tires can handle both climates. Everytime I try another tire I always come back to Pirelli. These are a true snow tire ;none of that upper layer all season tire business. I know this setup fits the car because I had a wheel & tire ruined in June and had to use the snow wheels/tires for a trip to Vermont Below is the tirerack blurb on this tire: The Winter 240 Sottozero Serie II (Series 2) is Pirelli's V-speed rated Performance Winter / Snow tire developed for the drivers of premium, high performance vehicles facing challenging wintertime road conditions as they drive their cars year-round. The Winter 240 Sottozero Serie II was developed with the philosophy that winter / snow tires must perform in a variety of unpredictable weather conditions and aren't just for use in the snowbelt states. Winter 240 Sottozero Serie II tires are designed not just as snow tires, but as seasonal tires suitable for the weather and road conditions typically experienced in parts of the U.S. between November and April by providing traction and handling in dry, wet, cold and wintry conditions. Wondering if anybody has gone ahead and purchased winter tires/wheels yet.
My car won't be here for another 2 1/2 months, but I'm trying to make sure I get a winter setup without delay since I can't pick up the car at the dealer in November on summer performance tires (unless I want to end up in a wreck). Tire rack has not yet listed the 1M, so I am instead using the packages they recommend for the M3 with competition package. Unfortunately, many of the 19" rims are not currently in stock and won't be for another two months. Anybody looked elsewhere for a winter tire package? If so, can you provide a suggestion? |

TireRack has the 1M listed as a 2012 model. It appears they show the same wheel/tire combo's as the M3 so not sure if they have actually fitted a 1M in the flesh.
I also had the Wintersport 3D's (19"s For Sale at Audizine) on an RS4 and really liked them too. I think am going to go with the 18"s listed at TR to save a few $$$ |

I'll be driving mine to the mountians every weekend, for the whole ski season Nov 11 til may 25, just like I did with my 135i, and I'll be hoping to be driving in snow I'll likely go studded winters 225/45/18 or 235/40/18, love studs on ice but hate them on clear roads.

I was looking at tire/wheel packages on tirerack.com and am considering a 17" MSW wheel + Continental Extreme Winter Contact tire package. It's $1200 with TPMS sensors and balancing. That's a great deal for tires I only need 4 months a year.
Does anyone have any experience with MSW wheels or Continental winter tires that they care to share? |

You will need 18" wheels to clear the front 1M brakes! This is why BMW winter package for the 1M (and M3!) is a 18" wheel size. |

I ordered the above rims a couple of days ago. Excited to see them. I'm gonna order the tires and TPMS later. These were the only affordable rims I could find that I really like. When they arrive, I'll test fit them to ensure they clear the brakes. The rotors will look even more massive!! We may be planning a before-school shopping trip soon, everyone in the family may be coming home with a brand new Dunlop Wintersport 3D tire for customs purposes!!

Just a thought, for the amount you may spend on a second set of wheels and snow tires you might find a nice little beater car to drive in the winter leaving you new irreplaceable 1M in the Garage?
I don't ever plan on driving my car in the Snow and Salt.

If it was a limited ed Ferrari I might but it's just a Beemer mate, life goes on, if it gets bashed who cares? It's a tin box, not a person, I've paid for it so I'm going to get use out of it, that's my philosophy anyway.

What about e46 M3 18" rear wheels all round? 18x9 et26 with 245 or 255/40 tyres.
Seems feasible to me according to the wheel size calculators. I take it the PCDs are the same... Last edited by Schnorbitz; 08-24-2011 at 06:39 PM.. |

Our winters are 8-9 months long. I don't have enough will power to avoid driving it for that long. But I am keeping the 335xi for a winter daily driver.

Confirmation question.
Has anyone successfully fitted a set of 18" rims to the 1m wheel hubs? Is there enough clearance for rim to fit over the front callipers? Are there any special rims or rim styles that fit over the brakes? Will any 18" rim do? |
