adding bluetooth on 128i
did a search, didn't find this, if there is a topic pls refer it...
On my 08 128i there is no Bluetooth (got the car used). I would really like to add this function thru the electronics. Is there anyway to do this at this point in time. The car does not have the GPS option. It does have ipod/mp3. thanks. |

No no no fellas...if you have option 6FL (iPod interface) on your car already, bluetooth can be retrofitted using the MULF-2 unit in the trunk of your car. This is a project I took on, purchased all necessary parts, soldered wires, prepped the kit, and when I was about to install everything, I put a deposit down on my 1M and halted the project. I did end up selling the kit to another member who got it working and posted his results.
Read carefully and thoroughly through the following thread from beginning to end, and you will have a good idea of what it takes. Parts will not cost you more than ~$100, and then whatever it costs to code bluetooth/GSM into the car's radio. Enjoy http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...tooth+retrofit |

I added bluetooth by adding a Garmin GPS (initially a 760, currently a 885t) on the mount for the BMW Portable GPS. It works well as a bluetooth phone, especially with the Garmin remote microphone. I use my blackberry and have full access to the phone book and call log (including by voice command on the 885). My older Garmin GPSs also play MP3s for me and work well as a GPS, of course. The 885t is a bit pricey at the moment but a 765t would do what I did (except it is not voice controlled like the 885t) and you can buy it right now for about $110. The BMW mounting kit is around $50. You can mount any Garmin GPS on the BMW mount but I would stay with the 4.2 inch screen models unless you use the tray mount - it might take a 5 inch model. There are articles on doing this in the DIY and electronics folders. My thread on mounting the 760 is in the DIY section (with pictures).
There is a good thread about the BMW portable pro system in the electronics folder. It is $750-$1000 (installed) but it is also better integrated with the vehicle (phone calls would automatically mute the radio, for instance). Jim
