We have a population of 93,260,798 here in the Philippines and there's only 6 1M's here. That means 1 in 15,543,466.33 people own a 1M in the Philippines! I'm a lucky owner! |

I wish I hadn't bought a house, how sad is that?

The symmetry freak in me likes the round number. Hopefully, BMWNA will come up with a nice way to commemorate this rare model.
I just wish it was a real "M" car.

It wasn't meant in some technical sense, so let's not get picky. Besides it wouldn't be logical - the 740 weren't "homologated" into the US or anywhere else for purposes involved with racing. |

+1. Homologation is indeed used in this sense by the automakers all the time: I was for instance denied to import a 5 series Touring to Chile on the ground that "it is not homologated in the Chilean market". That was the term they used at the time.

Now that looks pretty slick Metak! I know this would bump up cost, but is there anyway to get personalized on something like this? Most of us on the forum can look up our production numbers, and it would look pretty nice to have something that says:
BMW Motorsports Limited 211 of 740 Simple, clean and personalized would be nice (however I realize this will drive up cost a little; but I think most would be fine with it). |

BMW Motorsports Limited sounds like some sort of "official" designation conferred by BMW. It has not, of course, been designated as such and I'm not aware that BMW has done so for any other model.
For that reason, it strikes me as a bit pretentious. I'd prefer the simple "One of 740" That suggests enough exclusivity to me. Just my 2 cents. Neil |

Looking at these two VINS from the registry, I don't see anyway of differentiating a US model from a Canadian model via the VIN...
WBSUR9C56BVP75931 3/2011 1 CAN E82 (M) Black Sapphire (475) WBSUR9C56BVP75932 3/2011 1 USA E82 (M) Alpinweiss 3 (300) So I guess the question is... Is the registry correct on these two vehicles?

As of right now, ~20 of the ~200 Canadian cars have been claimed in the registry. Around 340 of the 740 US cars have been claimed. I'm not sure we will be able to use the registry to determine actual US production number for a long time. Hopefully BMWNA will help us out here.

In early press releases, production figures for the U.S. and worldwide were estimated at 800-1,000 and 2,000-2,500. After production started, the press, from information provide by BMW, was referencing the 800 number for the U.S. as opposed to 1,000. Now that production for the U.S. has ended, we know that BMW fell short of their estimate that could be attributed to 1M sharing the the Leipzig production line with the X1 and non-M E82. According to information gathered from our forum members residing in Germany, 1M and E82 production will end in the first quarter of 2012 to make way for the F30. My guess is with 3 months of production left, there wasn't enough 1Ms to allocate to the U.S. for BMWNA to substantiate/homologate a 2012 1M regardless of the known demand in the U.S. Regardless of what the real reasons are, BMWNA decided not to approve a 2012 U.S. spec'd 1M.

Neat car, but it's difficult to get happy about purposefully limited model vehicles.
It's a shame too, as the car is far more interesting than anything else the company is pushing to showrooms in the immediate future. |

Agree. I wish there were way more 1M made available, anyone who wanted one should have been able to get one.
