BMW Car review of my Stage 3 Evolve 1M
Just got my copy of this month's "BMW Car" magazine, which features my 1M, as tuned by Evolve.
I'm not going to scan the article as I imagine the guys would quite like you to go and buy a copy, but I can't resist a trio of quotes: "We've driven up to Luton in the M Performance M3 so I'm used to being in a quick car, but the ferocity of the 1M's acceleration still takes me by surprise. It really is of the hang-on for dear life nature when you hit the wall of torque that really kicks-in from around 1750rpm and from there it just keeps surging forward with no let up in its acceleration bar the briefest of pauses while you snatch another gear..." "...subjectively it feels like one of the fastest accelerating machines I've ever driven..." "It's not often I slip behind the wheel of an E92 M3 and think 'hmm, this isn't fast enough' but that was exactly how I felt when I returned home from Evolve's Luton HQ. After driving Clive's 1M I think I've just found my new favourite M car".

Sure - Evolve FMIC, decatted downpipes and cat-back exhaust, plus Evolve remap.

I'm running stage 1 from Evolve and been very happy with it. I've just added a Forge FMIC a few days ago and that's also made the car more consistent in power delivery after driving 100 miles or so. I'm thinking of going with Evolve's back box like you but read in the article that you've kept the stock midpipes. I assume they do not make much difference in your case against the N55 midpipes that everybody seems to be going for? |

...and the downpipes combined with the midpipes is VERY loud. For me, the small gain didn't justify the massive pain!
The N55 is the easy option - very easy to swap out, pretty good gains. The downpipes are a much bigger job - better results, both in terms of power and throttle response in my opinion, but the downside is that many more man hours required to reverse the job. If you go for downpipes, you can easily then try the midpipes and see if it's too much for you or not.

an other option is to replace the cats in the downpipe by 200cel metal cats in combination with a catback exhaust (e.g. Eisenmann which doesn't have the secondary cats or the N55 midpipe)

Adaption only takes you so far I'd settle on your final hardware set up and then get it mapped to get the most out of it.

Fantastic review--congrats! I was thinking more to do DP's and Mid-pipe since thought cat back didn't affect performance as much and that would keep noise under better control--anyone else try that approach?

For the article it appears Evolve have been a tiny bit conservative (better to do better than expected on customers cars I guess) and are claiming 430bhp and 475lb ft. We've seen better than that on the dyno, but i'll go with those figures ;-)

I hope to find it while I'm in Europe. So far no luck at the Amsterdam airport.
