I'm curious to know how did the total drop from 7,400 to 6,000. My guess is that the true number is around 5,000.

1M production
Quite simple, actually - I had several mistakes in the former version. This one relies on a source a lot more reliable. As of June 29, total production figure is 6,240 (including all pre-series vehicles). Will there be any production in July as well? We'll have to wait, I guess...

I think that last VIN produced in June are VU27455 (LHD) and VU28399 (RHD). Do you know why they had such a low 1M production in January 2012? Quite strange that no LHD was produced between December 22nd and January 31st 2012. |

1M's production did not continue into July, so that the very last 1M may have been VU27454, a black car produced on June 29, and presumably shipped to South America (Chile/Argentina?). |

Let's say it's a real good estimate
You never know, and I didn't get to look at the production records in Leipzig, but this is as close as I can get, and it should be very close to actual records (unless, of course, production re-starts tomorrow...) |

Don't hold your breath yet, could be Mexico as well...but please help me there, and provide me with your car's VIN. I'd like to make another check-up on this last one. Thx!

I just sent an e-mail to the official (and only) BMW dealer here. Let's see if they return with a reply since they are not really models of efficiency. On the other hand, my car's VIN should be of little help to you since I am a diplomat and my car was ordered via BMW dealer in Turkey while I was there from the BMW direct sales department with the delivery address being Chile! Still, here it is: VS63015. It was built in August 2011 and delivered to me in Santiago on 29th of October 2011. It is recorded in this registry.

So I guess similar to the Chilean Sea Bass, which is not actually Chilean (Patagonian Toothfish, but given a fancier name for US export purposes)

Though funny what you say, it is not really so cause practically bottom half of Chile is Patagonia which makes some sense to call that fish that name. Me Sir on the other hand has nothing to do with Chile other than residing here. My wife is Brazilian though and I am Pisces, if it helps
