How many unmolested, one owner 1M will there be in 10 years?
I'll have one! Anyone else planning to leave well enough alone? I hope not cause mine will be worth a ton then!

Besides everything that I have done to mine (or ever will do) will be easily reversible as I have all the original parts. Anyone selling or disposing of the original parts might have a problem though!

Mine will be there for sure (I mean hopefully), but I may keep it longer than that

I've got a 10 year old unmolested S54 roadster in my garage and I'm hoping to have the 1M in similar condition as well. The only mods I have are the black front grills and Metak's starter ring. I'd like to investigate some Dinan upgrades once I get some time to put this thing on the track in the spring though.

Dang, I didn't say garage queen, Guys! Mine was on track (Nurburgring) the day I picked it up and it's been on tracks (VIR and CMP) since. That plus 6,500 and several speeding tickets say "I'm no garage queen!". But, having seen several wrecked, and several pretty heavily modified, I think alot of these will go the route of E30 M3's with S52 motors. There is a big difference between enjoying a car and butchering one.
Every time I see one on track I kinda wonder how long it can last? I like running disposable cars on track. I think about the last E30 M3 I bought. It was never ever going to be a "money" car because of two replacement fenders. Drive it, heck drive it hard. Lord knows I do. But it's a different thing to start changing things around. Just my opinion. But please, if you wanna swap suspension and motors and turbos and intercooler and stuff, have fun! It will just make a stock car look that much better some day!

I plan to keep mine for a long time.. although if I have some good luck financially, I would considering trading her in for a 911 GT3RS....

Haven't seen anyone swap out their motors yet, but I'd be glad to pay a premium for a 1M with a S65 swap. Don't see how an aftermarket FMIC or coilovers would devalue a 1M. The stock FMIC is a piece of crap. Turbos don't last forever and maybe the first thing to mechanically fail on the N54 besides the HPFP. Not sure what you're trying to get at.

Mine will be one. I might swap wheels for a bit but plan to leave it unmolested. I'm actually in the market for wheels and thought about selling stock ones to get extra money for wheels, but I plan to keep them so it can be original at any point.

Time will tell. I have a few minor mods in mind.
I'll almost DD the 1M till I can justify getting a F30 M3 or a next gen Cayman so the 1M can 'retire' into weekend duty.

If I'm totally honest. I don't see this as an investment car at best you're looking at maybe getting MSPR back after mileage is deducted in 10 years if you're lucky. That is assuming it behaves similar to the way the e30 M3 has, which was 34k in 1988. Factor in TVM and the costs of maintenance and you're quickly upside down.
BMW did a great job advertising the car and creating a buzz around it with limited production. The also did a great job of using that buzz and artificial scarcity to hold a high MSRP on the car. Maybe in 50 or 60 years the car will appreciate but IMHO you're gonna have to hold onto your 1M for a long time to really "profit" from it. |

Will continue to daily drive mine, enjoy the hell out of it, and take great care of it. Maybe you can pry it out of my hands in 10 years.

Crazy
I actually bought a brand new set of ZCPs for autocrossing and they were slightly shinier than my current set. I decided to sell them and for a moment I considered putting the shiny new ones on my car but then I got sentimental and realized the ZCPs on their with German air kept me on the autobahn at 150 mph......I sold the nicer set and kept the originals.
this car is special and unless some economic crisis or physical crisis like not being able to drive manual, I'm keeping this thing unmolested. |

I don't like where cars are going now. Yes I am a member of the "Flat Earth" society. I want only a manual tranny. I definitely don't want the sat/nav crap. I want utter old school simplicity in a car. A car you actually have to drive. I really think we will never have a car like the 1M again. The boat has set sail. I am fairly sure there never will be a car again I will desire more. I also own a 1967 Ferrari, and new ferraris don't interest me at all (no manual option).
My 1M is completely stripped. It has absolutely no mods. I will never sell. I will put about 10,000 miles a year on it. I have an E46 M3 for harsher use (snow, airports, running the kids around) to preserve the 1M. I plan on living 40 more years, so that will be 400,000 miles. With careful maintenance the 1M will make it. Dan |

I just love posts like this where it clearly shows two different mind sets.
I agree that this car my never be a money car. I also think that to get you time use of money out of it it will need to be 70 years old and a bubble car, but I do believe there is a beauty in keeping what BMW made as they made it. Once you start screwing around with it, it's easy to screw it up! I saw a 1956 BMW the other day that BMW Zentum paid $1.2 mil for. It's special and nice but your stock 1M would make this car it's bitch! Not sure what the point is, but I like my 1M the way it is.

Again, you can change all of those things back with no harm done to the car, and they will be just as valuable as any other stock M1 then.
