I checked one out today and took it for a test drive. The quality of finishes is fantastic, and there's so many little storage areas. Standard features were impressive, although their "connect" system with the bolt-on screen that juts out from the dash doesn't look quite right. I really like the design of the car in person, especially its interior, which is a cut above BMW's. It felt a lot more sporty in the driver's seat than the F20, but I wasn't overly impressed with the 7 speed auto gearbox - it struggled to find the correct gear in city traffic, particularly over a series of speedhumps. Nice and torquey though, and it sounded pretty good. The A45 will be a weapon, and a real contender in the hot hatch segment.

It's only 155kw in the 250 Sport, I'm guessing no better/worse than any other similarly powered c4cyl.

Yeh, I thought the same thing, then I thought, what are the alternatives, recessed into the top of the dash and shrink the screen like my E82 or drop it into the console lower down? Either of the those are compromises (poor line of sight and smaller screen) compared to high and forward to the driver, ergonomically superior I think. Still.... It does look a bit different.

Saw the new A-class at the motorshow,
I think the styling is nice, would be a great alternative to the not to common Golf range we are confronted with on our daily commutes

@cozza - what was the sticker price on the one you drove?

I drove an A250 last week also, was not overly impressed either with the 7 speed, i also found it struggling to find the correct gear on a few occasions, brilliant car otherwise, they will sell well i reckon, but not good enough for me to give up the hunt for a 1 series.

The A45 on the other hand:

Saw a silver a250 sport leaving merc Sydney on botany road yesterday. I have to say not that bad. Would def look at it over the new 125i hatch (F20?). Looks well proportioned and sort of just works well when u look at it. I honestly can't say the same of the BMW.

Will be very interested to see the a45.

Around the same price as the f20 125i - just over $50K.

My opinion is this - with 265KW and 4WD weighing in at under 1500kg this thing will be capable of <4.6 sec to 100km/h. With a tune + mods who knows what this reinforced AMG engine is capable of.

sounds like a whiney little kid with gas

it appears that the gear box and 4wd make the 4 cylinder very fast, shame it looks like a slammed soccer moms car with flashy wheels, or in other words, really, really, ugly.

It wasn't confirmed when I placed an order for my 135i, but I could have guessed given today's trends. 6cyl turbo's will be very rare in the small to medium car segment.

Bloody hell, you two. Play nice or move on. This is a forum, and by definition, that means we're all entitled to our opinions. Nobody is right, nobody is wrong. We're all here to share thoughts, opinions and advice for those who want or ask for it. If you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Now, let's get back on topic.

Whether the A Class looks good or not is a matter of taste, and, like clothes, beer, girls, food, etc, we all like different things.

I think it looks pretty good, but lacks that "wow" factor on the outside (for me). The interior is awesome though. I'm not really interested in AWD either, which is why I got rid of the Golf R after just over a year. It bored me.
