M Sport Suspension
Is this just a stiffer suspension? Does it have a better sway bar? I have the PPK1 and am looking at the PE next. I want to keep in within warranty.

I bought my car with the M Sport Suspension but I thought it was still too sloppy. I would up getting the Performance suspension installed and like it much better. The car should have come that way.

It is a stiffer suspension than the stock suspension if you had a 128, but you won't be able to tell with the stock subframe bushings. Since you have the 135 as bmwbreed below points out, you should have the stiffer suspension but you can't tell. The best suspension upgrade for the car is M3 subframe bushings but the labor for these is very expensive. Whichever suspension upgrade you choose it will not be optimized unless you also upgrade the subframe bushings.

If you have a 135i you have msport suspension even if you did not get the m sport package. A lot of people aren't aware but all 135i's m sport or not have the "sport" suspension. So if you want to upgrade you need to buy the BMW performance suspension or m3 bits. Dack can back this info up.

^^that's correct. +1. All 135i's have the same suspension whether they have M-sport or not. Its only on the 128i that the M-sport gets you the stiffer better suspension. OP - if your want to keep your warranty... I think the Performance Suspension(PS) is the way to go. BMW dealers sell it and warranty it. Its rumored that KW did the shock/spring tuning for BMW's PS.

Here in Canada, we are offered the option of sport package on the 128i including: 18" staggered wheels/tire setup, lower suspension, thicker steering wheel & increased speed limiter.
Does anyone know if the suspension included in this sport pkg, the same as the "M-sport" suspension found in all the 135i? FYI - there is absolutely no OEM- M bits or logos anywhere on the 128i fitted with this sport pkg. |

I have a 128i M-Sport and it has different aero (same as 135i IIRC) and M badges on the sills, knob, wheels...etc To answer your question, I'm fairly certain they are the same. If you go to realoem.com and build up a 128i sport and msport, look at the shock part #s and compare them to a 135i |

The Sport and M-Sport packages for the 128i have the same suspension parts in the U.S. and I have to imagine it's the same for Canadian market cars. For MY13, only the M-Sport package is offered.
As others have pointed out, some people are surprised to find that the 135i comes with these bits standard, but I believe that's always been the case since the car was first introduced to the U.S market. |

Considering that a 128i already optioned with the standard Sport-Pkg. - getting the M-sport pkg would have simply added the ///M logos here and there + the perforated shifter knob & shadowline trims... does that sound about right?

Performance is slightly lower than msport(3/4 an inch so ive heard" and is more aggressively sprung, yet still perfectly suitable for daily driving.

My '09 M-Sport 128i has the same suspension (and nose/tail) as the 135i of the same year. It is very different from the non-M-Sport 128i suspension.

You are correct sir. When a 128 has msport it then revives the standard 135i sport suspension which is a bit stiffer than standard 128 suspension. That's why on the 128 you get way more for your money eith m sport as the front and rear facias are upgraded to 135/msport bumpers. On an msport 135 suspension does not change or bumpers just seats (which now are stand alone option) wheels steering wheel and the few m badges you get.

I have the 09 128i with the vin describing M sport suspension package. I put regular non-sport package springs and struts on the front and regular non-sport shocks in the rear, with the same springs as original. The front rides barely higher than the rear. Can someone verify which other components differ between the non sport suspension and the M sport suspension?

One thing to keep in mind is that there are differing springs for a vehicle whether sport or non-sport depending on vehicle weight. There is an alpha-numeric code for different springs. Example - D5 and D6 are front sport springs where the D6 is stiffer thus made for a heavier car. I'm sure this is clear as mud.

Thanks for that clarification, muddy at first, but very helpful, thank you.
How detrimental to day to day handling and reliability would the installation of the non-sport springs and struts on the front and the non-sport shocks in the back be on my base M sport suspension 128i convertible? TIA Jimmy |

For the back, if you're mixing non sport shocks and have sport springs you won't get the most out of the springs and/or shorten the damper life. Just noticed you have an E88 so take what I've said as applicable to coupes, not convertibles. The convertible is heavier, especially the back. Hopefully someone on here with an E88 will chime in. What code are the springs?
