Might be just a name sake LSD similar to the gen2 987 Cayman S, the clutch plates would melt after a few track days, but then inserted aftermarket plates.

getting tired of bmw's cynical marketing techniques, so everything now with 2 doors a turbo and a bmw badge is the spiritual ancestor to the 2002.
speaking of that, a friend of mine took delivery of quite an immaculate original the other day, even has a really cool boost gauge |

and it's a 'bmw performance differential' i can't see why it won't be a 1.5way? 1 way would make the article a joke, no way would it be a 1M killer, not a chance.... it still won't have m suspension bushings, control arms, all that goodness... so faster than the 1M might be pushing it? add to that, if it was a 1M killer, that pretty much puts the nail in the coffin for a new M1/M2. no good. |

Not faster than a 1M....... According to Scott that's an error.

In the interests of progress and competitiveness to the recent AMG offerings, I hope the M235i and M2 absolutely blow the doors off the old 1 series platform.
Wishful thinking??

The styling looks a bit tame compared to a 1M. The only thing that will save the 1M in the long run will be the unavailability of manual transmissions as an option.
That 2002 turbo looks cool but the lag on those is terrible. Also the wide arches aren't moulded in on the originals, they are screwed or riveted to the body with a sealing strip around the edge. He's lucky to get one of those if it is a real 2002 Turbo. |

The 1M claim did seem a bit too bold but regardless im still very interested. Still waiting to see what the final look will be.

though, the N55 should have a turbo upgrade soon which will wake it up i'm surprised you say it will dilute the 'real m's' you know E30/E36, they offered LSD's on many non-M models right? it's not a 'diluting' of anything, the not offering LSD's at all was a global dilution of the brand.. they're meant to be 'sporty' cars, even from the lowest model. |
