Anyone know of any decent places in the inner west? Would like to go to Advan but if there is somewhere I can drive to it would save a lot of hassle.

having just had mine done locally, i paid considerably more in parts than dacks quote of 500ish so if you have another car you can use you should probably order it in from overseas yourself. Dan@unitedbmw is my preferred dealer on the forums for OEM parts. |

My water pump was $2500 installed at the dealer. At 60,000kms. Warranty fixed it.
The car shuts itself down to prevent any further damage to other components. So u won't be damaging anything else if it blows. |

They didn't end up giving me an amount.
Actually one of them said $230 an hour and his advice was to just get a normal mechanic to do it. I have ordered from the US and will do myself unless I can get someone to do it for a reasonable price. |

OK, so my parts arrived and I'm going to spend tomorrow replacing the pump and thermostat.
Does everyone think BMW coolant is the best way to go or something like MoCool from Advan? Cheers |

Just an update, I did the pump and thermostat yesterday in under 3 hours, really wasn't too bad. A bit fiddly but nothing anyone with mechanical knowledge could do it I'm sure.
Total cost was around $600. |

Sorry to bring up an old thread. Have anyone claim their waterpump failure under premium selection?

No, but I did have my water pump go unexpectedly at 52615 kms a few months back. Repair from Peter Mabey (indy BMW specialist) incl. thermostat and coolant was $1765.91 ex GST.

I've just hit 85k and with summer not too far off I'm considering doing this at the next service as a preventative measure rather than be stranded somewhere. I've found the pump and thermostat for $550 (US) delivered to Australia. And expecting 2 - 3 hours install.. |

The good news for me is that the premium selection covers the waterpump BUT it does not cover the thermostat gasket and coolant. They said you should change it all one go as preventive measure so it wwill cost me about $300 But still better than paying $1700+++

Well, there's labor in that "repair" figure - total of $613 (ex GST) of effort. Parts only (pump, thermostat, coolant, pump and bleed screws) portion by itself comes to $1150 ex GST.
Greg from there has always been thorough and straight up. He was fairly certain from the start what the likely root cause was when it died on me out of the blue, plus he was able to get it sorted for me in <1 day. Last edited by gtappers; 09-25-2013 at 02:23 AM.. |

Which? Got a part no?
Even the Tunermotorsport "Water Pump and Thermostat Package" doesn't come with or mention a gasket? Unless you're referring to the OFH gasket? |

Which vendors did you guys order from in the US?
I had to replace my water pump a few weeks ago and I bought a replacement kit which cost around the same as the prices thrown around here but that didn't include shipping which was $100 and took 7 business days to arrive. |
