UUC magnetic oil drain plug...
Hi Guys,
I am reposting these photos bc I think some of you might have missed this post. I really think this UUC magnetic drain plug is a worthwhile mod. Just look at what it picked up in a few thousand miles of AUtobahn driving! Here is a link to the original post. You will have to scroll thru till the end. But bellow are all teh important photos. Quote:
Here is what the UUC magnetic drain plug looks like. The magnet they use is really strong. I was thinking it would be like a magnetic screw driver strength... but its realy quite stronger than a screw driver! Ok... as promissed... here is what I found on the end of my UUC oil drain plug. This is after about 7K kms of use. What I found was really just a fine metalic dust. Actually I was expecting more ferret metal particles - from my VW days. I think this just proves that frequent OCI has gotten rid of alot of metal particles from my engine. This was my fifth oil change in 24K miles(total). here is what I found.... UUC oil drain plug untouched - just removed from oil pan... a closer look - untouched... the silver stuff on the paper towel is the metal collected on the end of the magnetic drain plug. all cleaned up! Dackel UPDATE... See my post #43... While the UUC plug is ok, the Dimple Plugs are MUCH stronger and better made for the long haul. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...3&postcount=43 Dimple BMW plugs... http://magneticdrainplugs.co/bmwautomobiles.php I really LOVE my Dimple magnetic oil drain plugs! . Curious how many miles on that engine when the pictures were taken?
Edit: Nevermind, just saw it had 24K at the time of oil change |

I went to buy...shipping is more than the plug!
Definitely see the positives on getting this plug. Anyone else here in APO AE want to buy a plug and we can cut shipping costs?

nice! i had the UUC plug but got rid of it for the ECS plug because i didn't like the way you could see the glue that is used to secure the magnet to the bolt, the ECS was only $12 and came with 10 washers and just looked like a better quality piece with just a tad bit larger magnet. but either way that was just my opinion and i don't doubt that either plug does it's job.

Hi Gang,
I changed my oil a few weeks ago. This would be the 3rd time I have changed the oil using the UUC magnetic oil drain plug. As you can see there was far less metalic particles on the oil drain plug tis time around. There pics are before and after I wiped the magnetic clean. FYI... I change my oil every 5k or 6K miles using BMW LL4 (bc I am in Germany!) using BMW oil filters. Dackel |

I am really amazed on how much metal the UUC magnet pulls out of the oil. The first two oil changes there was a lot of metal particles. Now just a fine metalic dust. I would really urge anyone who plans on keeping their one - to use one of these magnets.

I'm due for an oil change, I'll look into ordering one. As long as it keeps the oil in the pan it can't hurt.
EDIT: Just placed my order. Free shipping to APO!

I've been using mine ever since the first break in oil change and it still collects metalic dust like your picture. Better there than in the motor.

For those that want to be on cheap side...On my old GtI, I would take apart an old dead hard drive and the strong magnets from that on oil pan and on filter. Way more coverage and prolly do better job. Just remove magnet prior to oil change to flush it out. Not sure u will be able to get magnet on oil filter on the 1 but oil pan should be easy enough.

I have been using the UUC magnetic oil drain plug myself. But recently I found a better one. By better I mean the magnet is MUCH stronger. Its made by a company called Dimple. They are a bit pricey(at $35) but the quality is very good! I highly recommend these Dimple ones.

I just installed the Dimple magnet in my e39. So, since thats my DD and racking up the kms (now over 332K kms) I will be giving it a good test. These Dimple magnets are MUCH stronger than the UUC one(s). Also on my UUC plug the paint is starting to flake off and it looks not so nice. But the main reason, is that these Dimple magnets are so much stronger. I'd say easily ten times stronger than the UUC plug. When you put the drain plug(Dimple) on a metal surface you really have to struggle to pull it off! With the UUC its not as strong. You just get a soft "click". I saw a picture of a small sledge hammer being held by the Dimple magnet. It's THAT strong! I will be sure to update this thread with some pics soon. Here are some from Dimple's website... www.drainplugmagnets.com
