Blackstone Oil Analysis

Received my first oil analysis from Blackstone. Meant to do it last year, but spaced it after I had already pulled the drain.

What do you think?

look excellent, a few clarifying questions as I am just a bit below you in IL and about to do my first oil change as my warranty is up on Thursday of this week.

Do you drive your car year round?
Run the same oil all year round?

How many months/days to drive the 4497 miles?

I think Blackstone's answer is just about as conclusive as you can ask for.

Why Mobile 1? Coming from high HP "tuner" cars, Mobile 1 has been proved to been a terrible oil.

Well, the Euro 0W40 is the only good oil they make.

This oil was from about July to April, but the car was in storage from the end of November through April 1st.

Mobie1 0w40 can't be that bad, since it's the only BMW LL-01 approved oil I've found so far (at least locally).

how do you get three oil changes from that? wouldnt you have to open two bottles per oil change which means the leftover in bottle two would be no good for the next oil change. or are you buying seperate qts as well?

Also, what OCI do you do with that oil? could you still do 7,500 miles? just curiouis becuase i have never used motul but i have read many times about their quality.

Cool! Looks good! I like his analysis "and we imagine you let those ponies run free now and again, too."

haha

One and a half bottles per oil change. Just put the cap back on, will be fine till the next one. Used to do them every 5000 km, now I do them every 6000 km. Just makes it easier to do every 1/3 of the 18,000 km the car calls for.

For some reason I was under the assumption that the shelf life of an open bottle of motor was very short, which is completely wrong lol. Straight from Mobil 1 website, http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...s_Mobil_1.aspx.

Thanks for the link, definitely ordering motul when my free service is over

You might have got it confused with brake fluid, which starts absorbing water once it's opened.

Pretty good. Hard to draw conclusions with one oil analysis.

I'd look over your Iron on future samples...bit high
