What Can I get for $20k, issues to be aware of?
I have no more than $20,000 to spend on 135i. Heres what I'm looking for:
N54 Engine Less than 70k miles Coupe, not convertible Manual Preferably sport package Is it realistic to find one with less than 70k miles for that price? The resell seems to be very high on these vehicles. Also Ive heard there are some reliability issues with the ones manufactured in 07 and 08? Should I stay away from these and try to get a 2009? Thanks for the help! I currently own 2 N54's (335i, 535i) but havent had any experience with a 1 series.

They didn't start production years on 135i until 08
08-10 are n54 based models, most issues are HFPF related and should be covered under warranty replacement until 84k (I believe, I have an N55 so I'm unsure of that) As far as pricing goes, you're tight on that budget. It's definitely possible but they are hard to find at that end of the market--they don't last long if they are down there. |

IM also just a bit worried about buying a car with higher mileage, I like my low mileage cars but just cant afford a low mileage 1 series, reliability wise how long will they typically last? And if I were to JB4 it how much would that deteriorate the life?

Just as a point of reference, I purchased my 08' for $20k with 40,000 miles from a private seller. I searched for about 6 months and found a few good deals before buying.
I would try to find an un-molested car with up-to-date service history. Things I would ask - 1. What services have been performed based on mileage 2. Have any recalls or TSB's been performed - Battery Cable - HPFP - Turbo replacement (i.e both turbos) .. there's an extended warranty for turbos 3. DME updates been done 4. Have the intake ports been walnut blasted 5. Have injectors been replaced 6. Has the water pump been replaced along with the thermostat housing 7. Has there been issues with the VANOS 8. Has the low pressure fuel sensor been replaced I feel the E82's a quite good platforms that have typical issues as most cars do and you should expect long life if properly cared for. As for JB4 I don't have direct experience....

any mod that increases power ultimately will add wear and tear. how much matters on how you take car of the car. personally, I would do oil changes and plugs earlier than BMWs recommended time frame. With these cars also you need to use the fuel additive to keep the injectors from getting gunked up. basically $9 roughly every 3,000 miles. |

It would make it a ton easier to find one if I were to get it shipped but the issue is shelling out the money before you really know what youre getting ya know.
Not that I'm saying your not trustworthy just dont think my dad would be down to do that without having looked at the car.

Fly and buy... Spend the money on a plane ticket, if it's what you want have it shipped. I looked for 6 months until I got mine, paid 17500 and it still has CPO and maintenance on it.

HPFP warranty is 10 years or 120,000 miles. Turbo warranty is 8 years or 82,000 mines just as a heads up.

Dang that sounds like a hell of a deal, it just takes time I guess.
But that sounds like a hell of a negotiation there too haha.

I got mine for a dealership with close to that but slightly higher miles. Just since I've been on this forum over the last few months I've seen plenty that bested what I did. Most of them on here.
