I haven't tracked this car yet but I've done some aggressive driving and I actually think the 2011 linear springs are pretty good; it's just the shocks tend to be underdampened. Have you thought about keeping stock springs but running Bilstein B8's? |

Very close to rubbing on OEM strut.

Thought about dampers only, but cant help but wonder whether coilovers would be better at all tasks (bumpy streets, tracks). Looking for better absorption of bumps, less body roll during braking, turning, and accelerating. Im not the kind to constantly tinker with the suspension though. I prefer to set it and forget it. I think dual adjustments would make me go crazy ... Last but not least. I want these to last and be corrosion resistant (our winters here are rough, and we see a lot of sand and salt on our roads).

I left that important variable out didn't I ... ;-)
Budget is limited at ~2k, and to be expended in Spring 2015...

If the budget is for both parts and labor you will be hard pressed to find anything better than the B12 Pro-kit. If you plan to tackle the labor yourself then add the M3 rear subframe bushings with the savings and you will be very pleased.

Best handling upgrade I did besides front control arms and camber plates. Not sure I will tackle the dampers/springs/coilovers myself (rear axle seems simple though).

I'm still guessing if I should go for the Bilstein B12 solution or B8 dampers and swift springs during one year and then change for a more serious and track dedicated solution ... Or save money and directly go for the last solution ...
I cannot bear the M sport suspension anymore : it's not stiff enough and not precise with all the M3 bits I have ...

I finally got my b8/swift spring setup installed last weekend. I also installed the m3 bits front and rear. I seriously love driving my car now. The ride is more stiff, but it is still very comfortable. As others have said, it feels hunkered down the road.
My tires are completely worn out though, so I haven't pushed the handling yet. Should have new tires next week and will give more feedback. So far, im really happy with the suspension. |

That's great ! Could you explain your feeling a bit more ? Like I said, I'm interested in changing my suspension ... I don't know what to do ... I know that Koni Yellow + Swift are in the range of coilovers like KW v2 but the price with the importation will be high. Maybe should I wait and go for the AST or KW route ...

I know it isn't a 128i or 135i but this is exactly what I did with my 118i e87. Handling is amazing! I drive 100 miles a day and it has never be uncomfortable. I would highly reccomended this option. By the way sorry for bringing up an old thread, I am about to change from my 118i to a 128i.

KW would be next up at a higher budget of course, and equally easily available in the EU.

Finally, I went with the KW/ST solution : the XTA coilovers. It's basically a KW v2 with linear springs and camber plates. This kit is amazing

How long is everyone letting their suspension settle before getting an alignment? 1 week? 2 weeks?

I'm struggling with the proper next suspension modification on my 2011 135i. I had my mind set on KW CS coilovers but don't want to give up my wide tires (see my signature). This means I need to replace my KW CS springs with shorter springs so that my tires don't rub on the spring perch. Expensive proposition, as I might even need to change my wheels.
Ideally I would like to keep my stock height, get a good damper and spring combination that will perform the best on the track and be decent on the street. I want to reduce body lean in curves. I want to reduce low speed understeer. I want to dial back my front camber which is at - 3.2*... Thinking about an E93/M3 front sway bar, stiffer or stock springs (2011 135i has linear springs) that are close to stock height, and matched dampers that are corrosion resistant, that will not break the bank. Dont really need infinite damper or height adjustment, but would be just a "nice to have" for me. I would rather have a damper/spring combo with longevity, performance, and low maintenance. The B12 Kit or just B8 dampers with Swift spec-R springs seem like what I need ...
