A few local BMW track events coming up. The first for BMWCQ members only I think and the second where we're looking for a couple more 1er/2er entrants to make up our team of four.
1. Sunday 22/03 Happy Laps at Lakeside "Ever a club favourite, Happy Laps never fails to put a smile on everybody's face. One of the best value events for our club members. You have the opportunity to drive your every day car on Lakeside Raceway under controlled safe environment on a speed regulated track. $35 gets you a full buffet breakfast, followed by approximately 45 minutes of track time. This year BMWCQ will also be giving back to you, each participant will receive a gift voucher valued at $15. This voucher can be used on the day when purchasing the available merchandise. (1 voucher per transaction) or you may choose to donate the voucher towards the clubs charity fund, for each voucher BMWCQ will donate $10 to the fund on your behalf... It's a win win for all. Arrive 7:00 AM for breakfast and on track by 7:30-7:45. Off track by 8:30-8:45" 2. Sunday 17/05 Regularity run at Lakeside "The BMWCCQ and Alfa owners club Qld are running an interclub regularity comp and associated show and shine on the 17th May this year at Lakeside. We want at least 20 teams of 4 cars.. The entry fee for the regularity is $190 per car plus your day licence if applicable. Our aim is to raise $10,000 to donate to Beyond Blue on the day." "hope to get teams from the Alfa Club, the lotus club. Jaguar Club, the mini club, triumph club, subaru club, mg club, holden club, porsche club, etc etc.." "Q. what requirements to the cars need to meet? Eg fire, kill switches, clothing etc? A. If it's a registered car it will be fine as is.. They sometimes require some tape over the head lights .. That is all but I will confirm..you need to wear long sleeves and long pants and wear a helmet..." It looks like the BMWCQ has put together ~7 BMW teams for this so far. Sadly we only have two 1er entrants at the moment. Myself (135) & a rather rapid 130. We need two more for the team of four. You don't need to be fast (I think 1'05" is the max allowed), just consistent and able to handle track traffic. For BMW club members the Paypal payment link is as follows: https://myclub.bmwcq.com.au/events/view/85 for non BMW club entrants the paypal link is as follows.. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr… Some regularity info here: http://bathurstmotorfestival.com.au/...-and-the-clock

The 135 is starting to get love. JB4, P3, new exhaust and downpipe next week.
And I replaced the ashtray with the storage tray. Reckon I've shaved 9 grams off the car's weight there alone. |

Any 135i owners having a run at the NSW BMW Drivers Club Supersprint at SMSP on 31st October? I am about to start further additions to my E82 135i Coupe with the goal of getting a CAMS/AASA log book by January 2016 and would love to have a look at any of the E82's that are at the event.
I will be getting a taste of the car's track abilities by having a run in the Regularity Class at the FOSC meeting at the short circuit on 1st November but fear it will be quite different to my previous experiences there in my low power/high handling/high braking MX5 NC race car. Mind you the wide torque spread will be very nice. |

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I have entered my MX5 racecar for its last run in my hands at the AASA Championships at Wakefield on 21-22 November and my budget can't extend to 3 days. This coming Sunday I am giving my 135i a run in Regularity at SMSP Amaroo circuit as part the FOSC meeting. It will replace the low power/high handling/high braking MX5 so wil be totally different to drive at Amaroo, particularly as the weather forcast is for 5-10mm rain! Even so, it will be a good opportunity to evaluate the LSd and KW Clubsport suspension in a relatively non-competitive environment.
Tomorrow I am going to the AGI roll cages workshop to discuss what they can do for the 135i to help me get it passed for a CAMS log book. As I am intending to continue to use it as a daily driver the plan is to get a bolt-in cage rather than weld-in. The rear 4-point cage would stay in the car after the rear seats are removed and the front section together with door bars would be bolted in before each race meeting along with a raceseat etc. AGI do bolt-in kits for earlier BMW's so this may be the start of a new addition to their catalogue. I am aiming for the car to be ready to participate in races by the end of January. The main things to be done are improving engine cooling and upgrading the Brembos with better pistons etc. Last edited by bm49; 10-29-2015 at 06:23 PM.. Reason: Fix typos |
