Maybe its $5k if you buy brand new turbos direct from the dealer or something.
I know I certainly wouldn't pay close to that... I'd get RB turbos and have an indie shop install it for right around 5k and be making a ton of power... |

Update
So having spoken to the SA again, the list of parts being replaced is:
Turbo Inlet and outlet turbo lines Air box Coolant hoses Some O-rings He said adding 15hrs labour for two techs and it comes close to $10,000. However, they have agreed to replace everything under warranty so that's a bonus! Still no idea what actually happened, the old unit is being sent to Melbourne to be opened up but I probably will never find out.

Interesting they'd bill out two techs. I would think they have the
book rate for a turbo replacement. Stealerships are all alike no matter the country.

I'm just glad I'll get her back and don't have to pay out, no way I'm selling her now, the separation anxiety has nearly killed me.

That's how I felt when I was away from my car. Did they give you a loaner? It was weird as hell getting back into my car after two weeks away. The hydraulic steering felt really heavy. The seat fit snug and I wasn't sliding all over the place. It's amazing getting back into a 1er after being away for a long period.

They gave me an X1 which I have nothing nice to say about and that's being polite.

Vanos unit. No idea what that is but it's the latest part added to the faulty list.

Drive any of the X's. I drove an X1 before and an X3 a week or so ago. Both were terrible and I hated driving anywhere. At least the 328 I had was tolerable to drive.

I thought I would add on to this as it won't let me start a new thread.
Here's my story: Bought an N54 135i on a Friday. By Sunday morning the engine malfunction-reduced power light came on. BMW dealer says that both turbos need to be replaced because someone "bypassed the waste gate" causing the turbos to be at maximum boost. Therefore, it won't be covered by BMW warranty. They quoted $4,500 repair. The dealer I bought it from refuses to help at all because it was an "as-is" sale. My attorney says I have a very good case against the dealer I bought it from but obviously it will take some time. Few thoughts... Is it safe to drive with the turbo malfunction? What about fixing the bypassed waste gate and having another dealer look at it? Anyone know about the legalities of these situations (specifically in Texas)? Any advice? What a way to start off with my first BMW |
