brakes replacement; when/how many miles?
my 1M has not been tracked to my knowledge by myself or the previous owner. The car now has 49k miles....i've asked the dealer to inspect the brakes a couple of times and they keep saying they are find. I find the brakes to be getting more rumbly and noisy upon braking-----do you guys know when the 'normal' mileage interval is for Rotor and pad replacements? 55k miles?
my warranty is going to run out in the next few weeks....so i was hoping to have them cover my brakes before that; but it's looking unlikely at this point :/ |

Getting mine done tomorrow at 18k. I have heard of dealers turning away brake jobs before..I've visually seen pads down to the rivets and BMW says everything is fine
I'd go to a new dealer...one that prides themselves on good customer service. GL

if i were op, id just look out for some worn rotors and buy those... then go in. since the rotor automatically make them replace the pads too

I ran my car hard all the way up to 65,000 miles before I replaced the brake pads for ceramics. The OEM pads still had tons of meat on them but I got tired of all the carbon dust on the rims, and the occasional squeal when they warmed up.
You may not need to replace them until around 75-85k miles from what my pads looked like.

My rotors are showing pretty obvious signs of heat cracking with a very prominent lip; although I haven't measured the thickness, my dealer told me that the brakes were fine since the pads had lots of meat left when I was in recently for a brake fluid service. I swap pads for the track, but based on how long the rotors and pads have lasted thusfar I can see getting -tons- of mileage out of them on a street-driven car. |
