Sunday Drives

With the weather in the 50's I opened the sunroof and took a nice drive in my 128i yesterday.

I am amazed at the smiles per dollar ratio of this car. I know is isn't the fastest car out there, but the exhaust sound from the 6 is perfect, the steering feel is sublime and everything is exactly where it is supposed. to be.

Great cars!

Glad you're getting to enjoy it! We're about to get dumped on with a foot of snow, so no sunday drives till the roads are clear. But my car is out of commission anyway lol

That is a BMW trademark. The Ultimate driving machine.

We are going to get hit with the same storm. But I just called my tire guy to setup a time to do the winter/summer tire switch. next Friday the 24th ...

Glad you got out and enjoyed your 1'er. Even driving ours in the pouring rain this weekend was a joy...I too love the sound from the 6, especially with my newly added DP and JB4.

I went out yesterday as well in the 1er. It was around midnight and I enjoyed a moonlight drive. Even opened the sunroof (which I rarely do) to take in the clear night time sky. With the windows down and the streets empty all I could hear was the sweet sound of the Performance exhaust. It feels like spring has arrived early here in SoCal. Was in the eighties yesterday and today is just as warm. Weather forecast predicts eighties all week. Man, I love this car.

I drove yesterday and today before the weather started to turn. It was perfectly sunny although cold. I put everything in sport and pass everyone like they're parked. And the glorious sounds. I think I have the best sounding BMW I've ever heard.

I remember I drove my parent's E88 last fall before the freezing air bit into the skin. It was a crisp 39F and I had the top down cruising around with my hooded jacket and although many people stared at me like I was crazy. I was loving every damn minute of it. Made me feel alive!

My wife and I will drive for hours on Sundays in my car, can't wait for spring I'm really missing those drives. Nothing better than all the windows down and being able to listen to the PE on the back roads.

I'm at least 2-3 weeks away from getting back in the car, winter decided to make a U-turn and come back a little longer. That being said, I just had the car at the dealership for service/maintenance. Now just waiting for some warmer weather, allow the road crews to clear the salt and repair roads. The first dry Sunday above 45 degrees I plan to do a drive along the same roads featured in February's issue of Road & Track in the latest Boxster S.

My E88 135i will be out with the top down tomorrow because this cold blast will be clearing out of the Carolinas this weekend. I see lots of top down time in my future and the mountains will be calling to us real soon!

Do you happen to know more details of the location?

I am planning a Spring run with buddies and hitting WV mountain roads has its limit

Yes...this location follows the Delaware river between PA and NJ. My starting point will be the Stockton inn on NJ side and follow the river (all back country roads) to the Delaware River water gap.

Btw...attached is a great website which ranks the best motorcyclist /sports car/ driving roads in each state. This is great for planning a driving focused trip.

I have the Mt. Baldy roads just minutes from my house and usually go up there a few times a month. Lots of hairpin turns and elevation changes make it pretty exciting and a lot of fun. There are also some nice, long, straight sections where I can build up some speed for even more thrills. Having it so close by makes it accessible and means I can go up there often.

Brought her home this week.

I just picked up my 2011 128i from Fort Meyers, FL. Love it. I decided to take a little detour on the trip back to Illinois. I went to North Carolina and ran the "Tail of the Dragon" highway 129N. I left Historic Tapoco Lodge in Robbinsville (highly recommended, BTW) just after sunrise. Temp was 33 degrees, and they had some light rain the night before. They salted the road, which normally would tick me off, but better that than black ice on curves that drop off straight down for hundreds of feet. Anyway, the road is everything it's cracked up to be. Amazingly twisty, with blind corners and mostly banked. I never got over third gear. That sweet six was singin' like the fat lady in the horned hat.
Cross that one off the bucket list. No traffic at all. Just one minivan that pulled over at the first pullover. thank you, sir!

Congrats on the new car. Was that the red 128i with 6MT? I had my eye on it but this blue 135i 6MT popped up so I bought it instead. I'm also thinking of driving up to that area or maybe the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Yes. It's the Crimson red 6MT from Auto Haus. They had it for quite some time. I'm not sure what it was that hampered selling it. I love red cars, and six speed 128's are not as common as you'd imagine. I was specifically looking for a NA engine since I will be using it for a daily driver. power is adequate. The car's not perfect, but I talked them down in price somewhat. I'll be taking it to a local shop for a couple quick fixes and a quick inspection. The brakes are really soft. Can't live with that.
