FMIC, Louder turbo spool!?
So I just installed the vrsf 7" intercooler and charge pipe and changed out my spark plugs. And for some reason now when I start to build boost I can clearly and loudly hear my turbo spool. It's seriously quite loud and very noticeable. And not what they use to sound like.
To put it in perspective on a scale from 1-10 on loudness it was at about a 1 or 2 before, now after the install the sound is at about an 8! I was just wondering if it was normal? It doesn't really make much sense to me how just a larger FMIC and charge pipe can make such a difference in sound? So if someone could explain and also make sure it's not a bad thing that would be greatly appreciated, and any feedback will help. I have a 2011 n55 DTC with a dinan s2 tune and axel back exhaust... Along with the FMIC and charge pipe now. Thanks a lot guys! |

You will definitely hear more turbo noise following your FMIC and CP installs. I assume your not throwing any codes, and the car feels like its making full power? You may have a boost leak if the latter isn't true. Can you post a vid or sound clip?

I ordered the same intercooler and just received it today. I was wondering if you resolved the whistling sound and if indeed was a boost leak? Did the car feel quicker? Did you have any issues installing? The box didn't come with instructions :/

There are plenty of instruct online to help guide you and give you the general idea of how to install. I think cobb has instructions you can download and YouTube has some videos.

I'm almost 100 percent sure it's a boost leak... The shop I took it too won't be able to work on it till Sunday (tomorrow) I'm almost for certain it's something as small as not tightening something down enough. The shop I take it to does too good of work to mess something up seriously. As soon as they fix her up I'll let you know. And the car does not feel quick due to the leak but once it's fixed I'm sure it's gunna pull hard. And don't get discouraged the intercooler you got is bad ass and if installed correctly will make you very happy! This is just an uncommon mishap.

Found a leak and tightened down the bracket... Installed the P3 gauge and I peak at around 12psi, and I still here that same whistle sound at high rpm/turbo spool. Just not as bad. It may just be in my head I don't know. And since I didn't have the P3 gauge before the install I don't know what kind of boost I was making before... Is 12 pounds normal for dinan s2? Also the gauge is through the obdII port and not from the vacume line. Last edited by 135i_Vert; 04-11-2017 at 04:41 PM.. |

If it sounds like a whale when you are spooling you have a leak.
