back when I had my 125i (also N52, 218hp) it clocked 245kph according to the speedo (which actually was the official top speed). after the tune to achieve it's full potential (as it basically is a software tuned down version of the 130i with then 265-270hp) I was able to achiev 265-270kph on the speedo but it took forever because of my 19" rims...according to gps this was real 260kph...I don't know if there was any speed left

Anyone actually max out a 128i (N52) - not the speed limiter, but the true drag/engine max speed?

Three months ago I was able to top-out my 128i ZSP model coupe, fully loaded as I was relocating to the west coast after working (natural gas plant build) in the east. In early-morning deserted South Dakota I was able to see 155 mph, and that was after the 151 attempt when a Rest Stop Ahead sign warned, I backed out then.

Have since fitted M3 LCA and soon the on-hand Powerflex rsfb, and aFe Stage 2 intake. Now that I know the ts, I'm good to go legal, most of the time anyway. (50k, 6mt N52, stock)

Surprisingly, we were evenly paired at these high speeds. I was waiting for the engine to cut out at 130 and was happy when it didn't. They let off at 142 after realizing they couldn't shake me (but I couldn't pass them either with their 429 HP turbo V8 against my stock 300 horse 135i).

I know it's an old post but 429 HP in a heavy @$$ truck is nothing....it's all about weight ratio. A 128I is not fast but it's far from being a slouch. I call it a quick car

I think your both delusional!! Your true vehicle speed was probably around ~128 mph. That's 95% of 135 mph. The sport button on a DCT has nothing to do with power nor V-max speed.

Use a GPS data logging app for true vehicle speed and get back to me. IF you don't have option #840... your car is limited to 135 mph(210 kph)! IF you have #840... your limiter is set to 155 mph(250 kph). AND even then... that is NOT true vehicle speed but what the speedo shows.

On my US spec 135i... the V-max was limited to 250 kph(I have option #840). But my true vehicle speed(checked via my TomTom GPS) was only 240 kph.

Now that my V-max limiter has been removed... my true vehicle speed in around 285 kph. I actually have driven slightly faster than that... but I was too busy driving than to look down at my speedo or nav/gps. That was pulling 6,400 rpms in 6th gear on my manual trans. I have 225/255's Michelin PS4's.

Ha. I'm just going of the fact that I was 2 car lengths in front of an sti at Atco and he said he was around 134. Gov is off. I don't take what the spedo says too seriously lol. Just got the car a month ago, once I'm done with the project I'm going to do a final dyno and we'll see how fast it can go at Atco.

I've noticed over 100mph the speedo is completely inaccurate.

This is just like the e9x M3 guys, who tell me they see 300+ kph on their speedos... while in reality they are limited to 265 kph. And IF they attend a ///M driving school event(over here in DE)... any BMW dealer in Europe can unlock the V-max to a real 280 kph up from the factory's 265 kph. Still these guys say they can hit over 300 kph. Yeah... on the speedo!! lol GPS is the only way to really know how fast your car is traveling.

Yup, Life on the Autobahn.

A few weeks ago I was coming back from Switzerland driving North on the A7 Autobahn... I came across a stock looking M235i... (it was tuned) - bc he was quite quick - when we started to get going. I was faster though. To be fair, it was raining so I only felt safe to get up to 168 mph. Like I have said... my top speed is 285 kph(176 mph) as far as I can tell. Although now that I have this dash cam with GPS speed... I'll be making more videos this summer. Btw a friend of mine with FBO 135i has seen 295 kph regularly.

A German flash tune(1 bar boost, 380 PS and 520Nm) and a Wagner FMIC and PE exhaust. I still have all my cats - no one cell cat for me! The power is all from the tune though, bc my Vmax has always been 285 kph.

No one mentioned having the PPK upgrade. Does this affect the top speed limiter?
I think I was incorrect in thinking the PPK changes the top speed limiter.

I'm not sure on the PPK affecting the speed limiter.

Here's what Bimmerpost News says about the Performance Power Kit:

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=587468

I didn't notice it saying anything about increasing the top speed limiter, but it does say:

Quote:
Power Kits should only be installed on 135i and 335i vehicles equipped with option code S840 (increased top speed limiter – which includes an additional oil cooler).

I found the article interesting. Thanks to your response and Dackel's. I viewed 2 VIN reports and do not see S840 or 840 listed but the dealership did install the PPK. I felt it upon leaving the dealership. Interesting.

Labor Day weekend I was pulled over by a kind police officer while doing 136 MPH on his radar. My car said I was doing 144ish. He gave a me a ticket for 90mph...! (OMG WOW TY) I didn't think my car would go over 130, it's still a bone stock 2008 128i/6MT, 64K on it. Since then I've been wondering how the hell I got it moving faster than the computer would allow. This article has me wondering again about wth is happening with my car.

I still wonder myself what is going on, but am not brave enough to go over 110 mph on the local interstate to confirm that it is 4 mph fast at that speed. A ticket at that speed would hurt my wallet too much if I was unlucky enough to try with a trooper nearby.

ahh - those days are over now in Denmark. As of April 1st 2021 your car will be automatically seized and sold on auction by the police if they clock you with + 200km/h

And they don't care if you are the rightful owner or not. Been in effect for 10 days now and they have seized 10 cars so far. Among those a Tesla Model S and a brand new 911 a friend of the owner had borrowed to get pizza.

Let's just say it's going to be interesting to see how this folds out over the next few months
