CV Joint recall
Did anyone else get the recall notice for the CV joints.
I did get a letter a while back and took the car in for the recall. When I went to pick up the car they said they checked it and it did not need to have anything replaced. I checked the service report and it said they checked the flex disc. Thought this was odd. I believed the recall was for the axles and not the Guibo. I now received another letter from BMW stating that they have record that I did take the car in and they did not feel the need to replace the CV joints at that time but that now they believe they do need to replace the CV joints. So I will be making an appt. to take it back in soon. Hopefully they actually replace the CV joints this time. I actually put together all the parts to do the 3 series hub swap in the rear and will see if I can get them to put these parts in when they replace the joints to save myself some hassle of doing it myself. Hoping they will just add the labour costs of pressing the new hubs and bearings in.

"Recall Campaign No. 17V-067: Rear Driveshaft Constant Velocity Joint."
Quote:
The dealer performed the inspection and called me at 9:30AM to let me know I would need the recall, and that they had the parts in stock. Happy me. He called only two hours later to let me know that the recall was done and I could pick up the car. Here's the interesting part. The work order indicates that the part replaced was BMW 26-11-7-610-061, which is the actual flexible disk, or guibo. I checked RealOEM.com and sure enough. The guibo is referenced as the constant velocity joint in the description. I just hope whatever was failing has been fixed and remains intact for the duration of my ownership. Peace... Mack

Yeah, when I read the recall letter in greater detail I see that they reference the assembly "which transfers drive torque between the transmission output shaft and
the rear drive shaft." i initially thought they would be replacing the CV joints. Too bad. Would have been nice to get my rear hub swap done at the same time. Looks like I'm doing that on my own.

I believe you purchased yours recently. A good first step would be to register the vehicle to you under the following BMW website. This will ensure they know where to send any notices or recalls.

Have a 08 128 and have not received any letters yet. Now my car "may" not have been BMW Canada registered so I just went into My BMW Canada and registered it. I had thought that I had registered it long ago.
OK, my car not affected. Seems only 2011-2012 135's and 1M (plus other models of 2011 & 2012) |

I am still awaiting this to be done on my car. I received the recall letter approximately 2 months ago. Most GTA dealers I have contacted do not have the parts in stock...

I currently only have 1 Recall in the system. That's for the Takata Airbag that is never going to have a replacement in stock lol
Judging by that the recall is probably 2012+

I have appointment #2 scheduled for the joint recall (again). This time the parts will be swapped rather than simply checking the production month. I got two letters in about a three month period for it.
Make sure your current contact info is on file with BMW Canada or USA. VIN specific. Z4 steering wheel ain't gat no dam Takata! lol! That old bag bomb is still sitting in my basement waiting on "parts to become available". |

I spoke to BMW Canada on the phone last week about My BMW account that has been inaccessible for a while now, and while at it I asked them about any pending recalls. They have only one listed under my VIN, the Takata Airbag Campaign... apparently my car (2012 MY 135i) is not affected by the CV Joint recall (my local dealer claims the same)

As I understand the recall eligibility is based on the faulty component's/car's exact production date (Jan 2011-April 2011) Maybe mine falls outside of the range as it was made on May 12...

I spoke to my rep about the dates and he was unsure but my cars build date was January 14 2011 and mine is not under recall. Very strange :

If your 2011 model was made prior to the receipt of the bad CV's, you would not require an inspection or recall. Peace... Mack

I am the original owner of a 2012 135i and I just checked and I only have the airbag recall outstanding.
Mine was delivered first week of April 2012.
