Strong burning smell after downpipes

Hey everyone, I just installed catless downpipes on my car and I'm having a very strong burning plastic smell. It's not a gasoline/ normal exhaust smell, it's like something is burning. I haven't noticed any smoke or anything out of the ordinary but I haven't really had a chance to take a look because it's dark and raining like a mf. Also I don't hear any fun Turbo spool noises or any new sounds after going catless. Sounds stock. Maybe a little deeper. Any ideas?

Sounds about right. Could be plastic somewhere or the Styrofoam packing burning off. Give it a few days if it doesn't fade away check for leaks.

Definitely check everything is tight and installed right, but my first guess is you're fine. It's probably just machine oil and anticorrosion coatings burning off for the first time, especially with the heat from the turbo.

When my friend got a high flow cat in his MK5 R32, it smelled weird for like 3-4 days

Yeah the smell is starting to finally subside. Last night it was so bad that it was making me light headed, I didn't notice it at all today so I'm thinking I'm all good. I am a bit disappointed with the sound, I thought I'd get some sweet spooling noises or something haha

Is the rest of the exhaust stock? You won't get turbo spool noises that are noticeable in the cabin with the stock can.

It probably had some anti-corrosion coating on it, that's probably the smell of it burning off, don't inhale deeply

I have noticed some clanging noises coming from the downpipes and increased vibrations when at stop lights. I'm guessing there's an installation error but the guy that put them in assured me that there was no contact with the subframe or heat shield. The car is running flawlessly otherwise and I will eventually have him take a second look, but is there any rush? Am I potentially causing any damage or anything?

No. Same issue here. You could feel vibration throughout the car on idle. Mine is against the heat shield so I know that's the issue. It could be the same for you.
