Forgot to snap the photo (engine bay needs a good cleaning anyway) but I yanked the carbon cold intake and put the stocker back on (with K&N drop-in.)
Normal, linear response has returned.
Hard to say if power is more or less, but it's certainly more consistent.
So not only is the MDesign Performance kinda ugly, it's kinda not great, either.
I do like the idea of an enclosed, inline filter. But the execution leaves a bit to be desired.

My scoop adapter was 3D printed, and split apart upon installation. When I first contacted them for replacement, I got an immediate response and it looked like they were going to help me. I fudged it into place, secured it with a (not supplied) hose clamp, and "sealed" the gaps with duct tape while waiting for replacement. Many months later, no replacement, and they no longer answer my calls or return my eMails.
So, off it comes.
If they would send a quality replacement to the scoop I'd be willing to try again - a smooth transition from ram inlet to filter may even out the response. But it looks like I'll never know.

You guys are all cleaning and detailing your 1ers and here I am making it as dirty as possible LOL. Took the car on a trip up to NY for a weekend at Belleayre. 5hr drive to NJ to drop off the dog with the in-laws, pick up a friend, and another 2hrs up to the mountain. Car did great with 3 people + gear, and in packed snow and slush on the drive and we had a great weekend! Downside is the car got absolutely FILTHY inside and out. Just brought it to a self-wash place to hose it down real quick and plan to give it a proper bath tonight while it's still warm(ish).

Got my track/autoX tires installed yesterday, 255/40/17 Federal 595 RSRR's all around
Front wheels: 17x7.5 ET41
Rear wheels: 17x8.5 ET50

So far no rubbing during street driving with stock suspension, we'll see what happens at AutoX this weekend. I will say that these things grip like crazy! 1st gear launch barely spins the tires and it's hooked up great from there. On the other hand, I would not recommend these for a daily driver, they sound like a small prop plane is chasing you around everywhere you drive lol!

Pics! (yes, car is filthy since it's been rainy/icy here the past couple weeks...)

It's nice when I don't have to worry about damaging the bumper. I have a 1m rep sitting in the garage just itching to go on the car.

And I've found the bumper is pretty tough. Taken on many snow drifts with ease and a health racoon.

I wish I could give exact details but they're lost in time.

90% sure they're a replica of style 351m off a F10 M-sport drilled to work on 1/3/Z series, but with lips. I bought them off someone on Craigslist so who knows where he got them.

18x8 et43 225/40r18
18x9 et38 245/35r18

Fitment is PERFECT. The top of the wheel is inside the fender/quarter, while the bottom pokes sliiightly with my stock camber alignment.
Only thing I still have to do is trim the fender/front bumper tab a wee bit since it rubs on deep bumps (train tracks only, really). Even on the highway and hard turns I have no issues.

My AG's are kinds like this now, none left in my size and they're not making them anymore. I am dreading the day one gets a bend. I LOVE the fitment but they'll all be trash if one gets damaged.

I washed my car today, looks great, save for some stupid swirl marks from some salt particles stuck in the MF mitt...grrr.

Did an alignment yesterday, front and rear, DIY style. The car goes straight, steering's centered, and it has SOOO much more mechanical grip now, it has the go kart-like handling back, and some nice communicative, light steering because of it.

Oh man I bet some people think you're trashed while driving when you avoid all those potholes

What specs did you align it to?

Got my E46 M3 trans mounts in along with shaving the fender/bumper tabs a little bit trying to get absolutely 0 rub.

Doing motor + M3 trans mounts was a fantastic idea, shifting is so much more crisp. I can actually do a WOT 1-2 shift real quickly now, before I'd have to apply pressure and hope it'd get into gear in time for the RPM drop. Now she slides right in.

2 bucket method with a grit guard in each one greatly eliminates likelihood of something like this happening. Rinsing the car prior to washing with high pressure water is never a bad idea either.

I do all that. Key word being I...

Dad was being nice and washed my car with the old car wash brush (YIKES!) that's now used for clearing snow off of the roofs of cars. No swirl marks prior...

Oh well, I had to do some paint touch-up and clay barring anyway. Now I'll get in a good polish and wax, and maybe try out a sealant/coating system.

I'm running MAXIMUM negative camber up front, which, with M arms and Dinan plates, is around 2.5 degrees on the right and 2.8 on the left (I take right turns much faster than left turns, so weird tire wear isn't a concern).

I'm running a little less negative camber out back than up front, to reduce understeering tendencies, if I remember correctly it worked out to about 2.0 degrees on both sides.

Toe is completely zeroed. Thrust angles are dead ahead.

It handles fantastically, as I think I've said before. Much more like a go-kart than before, which I love! A plus is that the steering is lighter (yes, I know, I'm weird), and I can really feel what the front wheels are doing.

After your little review of the E46 M3 mounts, I'm really excited to get mine installed, along with the Turner poly selector rod bushing, ECS teflon bushings, the Perf. SSK lever, Powerflex diff bushings, and eventually my proper M3 subframe bushings that are still laying around...

Also, I may have added this yesterday afternoon:

Rear brake pads.
Put in StopTech Street Performance.
Not a bad job at all.
Just need to torque down the wheels, and take 'er out to bed ' em in.

Changed the diff fluid from Shockproof to OE BMW. See if this makes the LSD feel any different. Hoping it will.

Dropped the splash shield to install the "is" motor mount. Hmmm. This looks more involved that I thought. I better google and see what's involved/recommended ... Shoot. This looks more involved than I'm willing to do today. One guy says it took him 8 hours, but now could do it in 6, later some guy claims an hour but says nothing about how (which means it's a lie).
To me it looks like easiest option would be remove rack, raise engine and drop subframe. But I'm not going to investigate this. I'll hold of until the W/P acts up.
I really should do a pan gasket too, it's starting to weep.
And I should do a trans flush/filter again.
