N55 mid pipes with performance exhaust
So I recently added a performance exhaust to my n55, including the resonator delete pipe. Along with the vrsf downpipe and ps2 I think it is a little too loud, and drones a bit too much with the dct.
I ordered a set of berk midpipes, I’m hoping it will quiet the drone a bit. Anyone install a set with the performance exhaust? I am curious how much of a difference the resonators will make. I can’t imagine it will eliminate the drone but I am hoping it will help a bit. If it doesn’t make it better I will probably sell the p.e. and maybe try the berk street axle back. |

Actually it probably will help with the drone.
I love my N55 PE with res delete, but I'm running a catted DP and have a 6MT, which by all accounts is less prone to droning at highway speeds (actually it probably depends on what speed/rpm you cruise at - typically I cruise at 78-80 mph which gives me about 1750-1800 rpm)

I have the Berk midpipes and street exhaust and it drones like crazy. It also makes no noise at higher RPMs so pretty much worst case all around, I can't wait to replace it.

It's easy to eliminate drone while cruising, just downshift to increase RPMs a little, and VOILA!! No drone. Works for me... |

It's probably because I'm on vacation in Germany drinking a lot of amazing German beer (and was having a nice Bockbier at the time of writing). The beauty of it is that I'm here visiting my fiancées family and every time we come over, her dad drives us everywhere so i get to sample all the German beer i want! Btw, i am an avid homebrewer and beer geek extraordinaire.

Just put the stock mid-pipe back on and you'll be fine. I'm running AR catless DP, N55 mid, BMW PE. Sounds great, never drones. I have a N54, so not sure if the N55 is more prone to drone?

Yea the N54 seems to be different... unfortunately I tossed the stock midpipe with the axle back after I was rear ended and it was damaged.

Alright so I need to take this back. I was doing a bunch of work on my car and found a crack in one of the resonators, and all the gaskets were pretty much shot (I have no idea how long this has been on the car.) I welded the crack and replaced both sets of gaskets and bolts with new. The exhaust is 100% improved. It actually sounds very good now and the obnoxious drone is gone. It may actually be a bit too quiet for me now.

I'm really hoping the catless DP opens up the exhaust sound in the higher rev ranges, I've never had a car that sounded so much better at 3k rpm than 6k rpm. Does sound very nice at low RPM though.

I ended up putting the Berk mid pipes in with the performance exhaust and d/p, and tbh it made a huge difference. The drone is almost completely gone and it has a nice exotic sound, volume is perfect in my opinion.
I am not sure what the Berk street muffler sounds like in comparison to the performance exhaust, but I’d bet the downpipe will wake it up a bit |

No! I just re-read the post. Numbers are screwed up. 60 mph at 1750-1800 rpm. 60! 80 is a solid 2700 rpm
