Same here. I like the mechanicals and performance, but I HATE the interior. The Civic Type R has a decent interior, but ghastly body. I like the STI's purely functional interior and the exterior is tolerable.

Either an m3 or audi s3 or if I didn't already have one a boxster. I had a blue 2016+ civic type r try to race me yesterday on the way home from work. I think the little 1 series surprised him after I pulled away... i have to admit though it was faster than i thought it would be . I know he had aftermarket exhaust and intercooler at the least.... just an ugly looking car.... not in an sti ugly but cool way....just ugly like a Pontiac aztek

It's a 4dr, AWD with a 4cyl turbo that has 189 hp & 207 tq. There is a factory tube available to get it up to the JCW "works" tune with 228 hp & 258 lb-ft. Or there are aftermarket tunes as well. Our 2011 Countryman is the non-S base model. It's fun to drive, not slow (but not fast like the 135) but its utility factor can't be beat. It's a great car really. I will probably consider one if I had to get a different car.

If I had to stick with one car I'd only want a 1M. If we're talking within reasonable dreams here I'd have a C6 track car and a Toyota 4Runner as a DD.

I've always been a fan, especially of the new ones. The SC'd PreRunner must have been an animal!

Oddly enough, I cross-shopped the Taco. I'm happy Toyota still offers a 6-speed manual option, but I wish it were available in more trim levels. Why can't I just get a V6 SR5 PreRunner in 2WD with the 6-speed???

So am I. I think they will be soon. They are a great performance bargain right now which means lots of young drivers will buy them up, trash them, and send them off to the junkyard when the serious repair bills hit. A well-maintained 1 series will be very hard to find in 10 years. Look at the prices on Fox body Mustangs right now! They were never rare or collectible, but it's hard to find one that hasn't been trashed because it was dirt cheap.

I've been driving my 2000 Z3M coupe the last few days; it's an S52/poor man's M-Coupe (e.g. not the coveted S54 version of which there are 700 odd examples). Although "only" having 240 HP, it's a total hoot to drive, has more than enough power, and is everything that the modern cars are NOT; totally connected, visceral, analog. Maybe the solution is to just find an old (hopefully MT) car with hydraulic steering to use as a weekend car, then buy something practical that's boring as hell for everyday, but something that gets the job done and has a warranty.

For me it would have to be a GT3 in Oak Green Metallic or the GT4.

Former Mk6 GTI owner here (bought new and sold with 77k miles 3 years later). Warranties are nice, but spending every Saturday at the dealer trying to get them to reproduce issues is not. I really loved that car when it wasn’t leaking coolant, leaking water into the cabin, stretching subframe bolts, etc. I couldn’t recommend VW to anyone even though the GTI is a superb car.
Current DD is a 2018 Tacoma TRD Off Road. While manual is available, they are very difficult to find in certain regions. The closest manual I found was 1100 miles away and my wife was not amused when I suggested that I would fly up to buy it. Ours is an autotragic and it is the worst auomatic transmission I’ve ever driven, by far. It makes me irate daily. Recently my wife has been taking the Tacoma to work and I’ve been driving her 2016 Mazda6 which is also an automatic, but is the best auto I’ve ever driven. Clearly not as involving as the BMW but it is a good driver’s car, comfortable, and relatively inexpensive. The Taco’s shifting bullshit does not seem to bother my wife. If I wrecked the 1er tomorrow, it would be a 2019 Miata for me, no question. Have nothing but good things to say about Mazda. |
