Got a ticket today
Nothing too exciting. figured i might as well share. Same 2 lane road i take evvveryday. going about 3 mph faster then i usualy do, and of course he was out there today.
Clocked me at 58 in a 40. the funny part is i REALLY thought that road was a 35. haha He made a big deal about my window tint, but then basically said he was too lazy to write another ticket for the tint, so let me go on that. i guess im happy about that. even though i have been pulled over for speeding before, and gotten a ticket for JUST the tint, which is obviously way better. Im hiring a lawyer. Its been a while since i got a ticket. im a little nervous about my insurance and stuff. O well.

uh, are you serious?
a lawyer 1. is cheaper. 2. is waaay easier (hire the lawyer, they take care of evverything) 3. *almost always* gets the ticket thrown out, no court costs, no speeding fine, no driving school, no points. i have gotten a laywer on just about everyone of my tickets except my first ticket every. which i regret all the time. if i had gotten a lawyer my first ticket, he definitly would have gotten it thrown out, because it was my first ticket, then every ticket after that probably woulda gotten thrown out because it woulda looked like my "first". I believe once maybe twice i paid for a lawyer and for court costs, which is still cheaper then paying the fine and/or going to driving school

like 70 bucks. ish. its really been a while since i have hired one. so im a little out of the loop. im sure just like everything else they range in price, and im sure you get what you pay for. but at the same time, it has to bea cheaper then paying the ticket, otherwise most people wouldnt do it. im pretty sure i have paid like less then 85 everytime. i wanna say less then 70 though.

Well that's what I'm intruiged about, is hiring an attorney that useful for any regular traffic violations? I had no idea as once I was fight a ticket in court and I saw a guy showed up with his lawyer, who got ridiculed by the judge then still found him guilty. I had no idea it a lawyer would be so useful. If I knew, I would've paid a lot more then my ticket to the lawyer, as it would've help my insurance a lot.

all im gonna say is 1. i regret not getting a lawyer for my first ticket 2. i have gotten a laywer for every ticket since then, and have been happy with the outcome.
who knows, maybe south florida, has some weird laws that allow lawyers to fight traffic citations easier/cheaper/more productively then other cities/counties. i suppose anything is possible. down here its like "the norm" to hire a lawyer, buses have ads for lawyers, every street bus stop has an ad. there are huge building with ads, and commercials for their services.

I was doing 50 in a 35 in North Carolina, and apparently the only way to not lose my licence was by keeping the lawyers well fed.

Quick question:
1) What kind of lawyer do you hire, the personal injury kind? Do they have lawyers that specialize in traffic issues? 2) $70 sounds super cheap. That's less than just paying the fines and what not. What exactly do they do to get tickets thrown out? Thanks. |

do a google search? its lawyers that allll day long just fight speeding tickets. i mean, maybe they take other cases too. but these places specialize in speeding tickets.
From what i have learned, they basically have "tricks" they do. 1. they check EVERYTHING on the actual ticket, if ANYTHING is wrong, it greatly helps getting the ticket thrown out. as far as i know, this is something you can do yourself. birthdays, color of car, time of day, from what i hear, all these have to be 100% right, or they can get the ticket thrown out. i dunno, how true this is, but i have heard it a bunch. 2. they postponed the date of the "trial" then they get a new date, then they postpone, then they get a new date, postpone, etc etc, until its so far from the original date, they just wanna like throw it out and be over with it 3. soooo many of these lawyers spend soooo much time at the courthouses fighting tickets that a lot of the lawyers become "friends" with the judges. after spending sooo much time at the courthouess with the judges, you just KNOW all the judges. then you get the judges to throw it out. like i said, this is just what i have heard. dont know how true it really is. i PERSONALLY would pay equally or slightly more money to a lawyer to avoid points, blah blah blah. hell, i would rather throw more money at a lawyer who has passed the bar and etc etc then give money to the police department, but all the traffic lawyers i have heard/seen are all like 60-90 bucks. its very cheap. and well worth it. sometimes you do have to pay for the lawyer and court cost, or the lawyer and a small fine, i suppose its possibly if you have a lot of tickets you would have to pay for the lawyer, and traffic school or the lawyer and the price of the ticket. that has never happened to me before, but i guess its a roll of the dice.

I agree with cdheaven...in sofla, they have 'ticket clinics'...flat fee (about $70-80 bucks for speeding), they take care of everything...its always cheaper than the ticket itself and of course you'd want to do it for your auto insurance. They will tell you of course, that they don't guarantee the results and extra court costs might be incurred but in my experience (3x) they always clear the tickets. This was when I was still living in Miami.
I do believe they handle DUI/DWI cases as well...but they are more expensive. Not sure what the success rate is on those cases.... I haven't found a comparable set up here in NoVa/DC

I remember that the judge didn't even call my name....my lawyer had a quick chat with him and a someone else "backstage" and then I was sent to the cashier to pay a small fine and some court costs. God Bless the American Judicial System!
