They have a faux limited slip, it uses the brakes via electronics to imitate what a mechanical LSD does. It works decent but is still no substitute and is really only needed if you track the car. Other than that for street driving or should I say stuff you shouldn't be doing on the street anyways the electronic LSD in the 335i and 135i and the rest of the BMW none M line up is more than adequate.

If you want a physical LSD you have to pay for each and every gear and cog that goes into each car. |

I thought the 135i had a better 'tweaked' dsc that was better than the 335...

The 135 LSD may make it to the 335, but it hasn't gotten there yet.
"According to some very well placed sources, electronic differential and specialized DSC currently found in the 135i will eventually make it’s way to a special performance variant of the 335i expect in the next few years. Look for the 335i to follow along the tradition of the 330i Performance Package that was offered over the last several model years of the E46’s model life-cycle (US only) complete with many of the components found in the newly released “BMW Performance” catalogue." |

IF you want an LSD in a factory BMW... you have to buy a //M model.
Still think your 135i/335i... has a LSD... all one needs to do is jack up the rear wheels off the ground and spin the rear tires by hand(while the car hangs up in the air)... Both wheels spin the same direction = LSD one wheel spins forward while the opposite side wheel spins in the other direction = open diff, no LSD. |

There are, of course, after market options to add a LSD to a 135i. It will help on the track but also on low traction conditions. Like trying to drive on snow and ice. It isn't cheap or easy to add on a bimmer, however.

Is a proper LSD needed for the street? No, then again a BMW isn't needed for the street either. The management at BMW knows that most of their customers couldn't tell the difference between the Mac Pherson strut and the Turkey trot. So, we are left without a proper double wishbone front suspension and without a real LSD. Good corporate financial decision? Yes. But, if Mazda can put both in a $25k Miata and make a profit, there is really no excuse for BMW to delete them in their $45k sports sedan. Is the 135i one of the best sports sedans on the market? Yes, it sure is. Is it "The Ultimate Driving Machine"? Only in the minds of the marketing department.
