I got basic unleaded in my car!
A family member put the wrong kind of gas in my car. Should I worry about it? Should I put in octane booster?

relax, it'll be ok. you might get a bit of ping, but likely won't even notice the difference. When you get down to a half tank top up with premium or what ever you usually run.

I've pulled into gas stations that didn't have premium, filled up with the basic and was all good. Or go full on panic, and tow your car to a garage get the tank emptied and fill up with fresh.....trust me.....Relax.
Seriously, was your tank completely empty when this egregious event occurred? if you were at a half tank then all you've done is lowered the octane to some mid point between the basic fuel and what you normally put in. |

You need to go to the dealer ASAP, have them perform a fuel system cleaner to ‘cleanse’ the fuel system (fuel injectors/fuel pump/filter and gas tank) to remove the harmful deposits that was caused when said family inserted the meager fuel grade.
It is HIGHLY possible that the fuel pump relay and harness have been contaminated as well. However, that is the least of your worries. Are you sitting down Real Dodger? The ‘Cadillac’ converter has now been compromised, along with the four (4) Lamba (aka oxygen/02 sensors) so those need to be replaced as well. Fuel door, which is located on the passenger side of the vehicle, needs to be replaced, along with new paint on the quarter panel. While you are in there, have the techs drain/refill the rear passenger side taillight fluid to save on labor. Lastly, since fuel feeds through the accelerator pedal, that too needs to be replaced, along with the transmission shifter linkage. GL. |

I'm letting the 16-year-old live. His mom & his twin brother went to do the wreathlaying for veterans this morning for young men's service league. Next time though, he's going to get it!

Some pretty foolish comments. I would just add octane boost and forget it.

Tell the said 16 year old that if they do it again someone will be laying a wreath for them. :-). In the mean time explain to them about different grades of gasoline and why it is important to use the correct grade.

I would'nt go to track day, but just drive easy until you refill, and don't use eco-pro which makes car run hotter.
I never like the antiknock sensor to find low octane, but once not a problem. I had Ford PU straight 6cyl, and every time weather was hot and dry, it would ping for minutes at a time. Did that for 8 years and 170k miles. Couldn't set timing back enough to fix. I wouldn't ever add additives except the cleaning kind like Techron. |

many funny comments here - but you posted so you are concerned - don't be. Drive the car - I would suggest until you are close to out of gas (50 miles to go etc...don't be dumb) fill with what you would normally and move on - no need to look back
