I'm working on extending my driving season. Saving up for a summer set of wheels and tires, MPSC2, relegating the current MPSS set-up to "three-season" duty. California Love. F' the haters.

Yes, but I don't believe they'll fit our cars.

Got the call from the dealer that my recent issue was, as I assumed, a bad water pump/thermometer.
Wow, my car is being quite stereotypical and all the famous things are failing. I’m at 43K miles, and, in the last year I’ve replaced my charge pipe, OFHG and water pump. I should have them put in a new HPFP, just to be safe. lol At least I got my money’s worth out of my extended warranty in only a year. |

I may get a set of Nokian WR G4s to throw on the stock 207Ms for those 1 or 2 weeks a year during the holidays when I drive up to Washington to visit my folks, though.

So, every other weekend or so I give the tires a feel just to be sure nothing is horribly amiss. For some time now I've been telling myself the inside edge couldn't be that bad.... Last weekend while checking out my boost leak I had the opportunity to get close and personal with the inner edges of my front tires. Yeah, the toe is whacked like kicking a table leg in the middle of the night... So, gonna run a string and get a measurement this weekend. Starting a pool- pick your number, I'll post what I find and let's see who's closest... Zero (0) total toe is my target good number, I'm really curious just how far off it is. Dinan Camber Plates and Eibach springs, along with 10 years of no alignment.

I used to only run summers when I lived in LA, but I think I'd probably run A/S 3+ tires part of there year there now, too, because of mountain driving. |

Hi. The only other ultra high performance all-season tires I've run are Yokohama Advan A/S on my 911, and, while I don't notice much difference in terms of bad weather traction, the Michelins are better in the dry (likely the case vs. the Contis, too.) The turn-in on the Advans wasn't nearly as good, although they were a bit quieter and cushier, IIRC.
It's really just a matter of priorities. The Michelins are at the farthest performance end for all-seasons and are the closest thing to summers, even beating out some summer tires in the dry, so they're going to be stiffer and noisier than the other all-seasons. I admittedly often forget they're not summers when driving, and I'd probably just run them all year if it wasn't for going to the track. Heck, they'd probably perform beyond my ability at the track, but I'd worry that chunking would eat through them quickly. They last much longer than summers on the street, though. |

Excessive inside edge wear...I'm gonna go for Toe-Out for 500pts, Alex. "What is .5 degrees?" FWIW, I put together an Excel spreadsheet for alignments. I'll link it here if you want. It has a built-in calculator for converting inches of toe/camber to degrees over diameter of the wheel, and space to log values.

Mine was pretty straight. But with the negative camber, inners were toast while outer edge was barely worn. To 20k miles, though. (MPSS.) Last edited by tjswarbrick; 03-16-2019 at 01:35 AM.. |
