I thought I'd ask here since this section has more traffic. I currently have an M2 and considering trading in my Honda Fit for a 1 series as a daily. Found a '13 N51 128i M Sport with 59K miles for $14,250. I'd prefer a manual but oh well. It was originally from PA then shipped to SoCal where it was certified and sold. All services done by BMW and valve cover gaskets were replaced and oil/fluid leak checked last month. Site says it comes with limited warranty. Wheels don't look OEM and has spacers installed judging by the pics. What do you guys think?

Wheels don't look stock and the fitment looks odd on the rear wheels (stretched). I'd try to ding out the specs & offsets on those before purchase.

As a Fit owner, which my daughter now has, I say go for it. But, you already have an M2. Fits are dirt cheap to operate daily. Benefit of the N51 is the SULEV warranty, if you are registered in a SULEV state.
Price seems a bit high to me though. Get a PPI, Carfax. Does it have Nav or no? Other options? Offer $13,500? Or wait for a manual to come along. |

If it's cpo at least 6mo then I'd say it's a good price, good purchase. however you want an MT get an MT.
the wheels can change and doesn't cost much on a budget or spend a little more and get what you want. |

SULEV warranty may not apply. After 2010, PA cars had all the smog equipment but NOT the warranty. There is a good thread somewhere on here with a link to the BMWNA document describing exactly what is covered in each state by year. Read it, then call your local dealer to see if they will honor it. They might since it is CA. Here in TX, I am on my own for all repairs specifically because my car is from PA. My dealer does SULEV warranty work if the car came from the right state. Fuel tanks for E46 SULEV cars were 8 grand... no idea about the 1er N51. It's worth a phone call to confirm.

The warranty is based on where the car was originally registered, not where you have it registered now. That is why you can get SULEV warranty work done even in states that never sold the N51, like Texas. Look at the PA section of the BMWNA doc. 2009 & 2010 had the full 150k warranty, later years had no warranty but did still have the N51 and different fuel tank. Since Cali is a SULEV state they might be able to cover the work even though it was a PA car, but speaking with a knowledgeable service advisor is the best way to find out.
I personally would not want to buy an N51 car without the warranty and would pass on this car. It's not a manual anyway so the decision seems easy. |

"To determine if a vehicle is eligible for the California Emission Control System Limited Warranties coverage, the following three items must be taken into consideration: • Model year of the vehicle • Current state where the vehicle is registered • Original state where vehicle was retailed (only for vehicles prior to 2011 model year)" Since it is a 2013 MY SULEV to be registered in California, it will be covered by the SULEV warranty regardless of what state in which it was first sold. For instance the SULEV fuel tank in a 2013 128i with an N51, P/N 16117190559, is $795.30. The fuel tank in a standard 2013 128i with an N52, P/N 16117074463, is $720.91 (and not covered). The fuel tank in an M56 powered E46 325i SULEV is, however, $4379.98. (Pricing courtesy of thebmwminipartstore.com) I've also not heard that N51s have issues with their emissions control systems, just a killer warranty. That said GoocH_CkY , hold out for the stick.

Appreciate the feedback guys. Yeah I think I'll be patient and wait for a manual. I'm considering an F31 as well. Big difference but I love wagons and hatchbacks lol.

Great cars. I rented a turbo-diesel version in Portugal twice. Lots of fun to drive. The closest we have is the X1.
